Soap Operas are shows that have a reputation of having only stay at home moms, nannies, and the elderly tuning in continuously to watch as the drama on the show unfolds. At least, thats as far as stereotypes goes. Nowadays, the only soaps you see on television are reruns of past shows and mainly Days of Our Lives, a very popular long-running series. Many of these shows display these usual cliches, Adultery, Death, Coma, Gangs, and anything you do not expect to see. The unexpected plot twist are call cliff hangers. These leave the audience in awe and shock. They are one of the main reasons the fans are left hungry for the next episode. Soap operas dated back in the 1830s and surprisingly… it was not first aired on television. They were first broadcasted on the radio and the name “Soaps” were called due to the soap companies that were manufacturing or sponsoring the shows to even air or premiere on television in the first place. But later on eventually they would be revealed on television for all of the world to finally see. When that day did come, the soaps played a major role in television history. They aired everywhere possible, including the international countries such as Brazil and Argentina, and the shows would run for as long as possible. …show more content…
This tool is most effective for suspense, an edge, and most importantly in any good or well- reviewed soap opera & novela , it is also most powerful in a way for drama. They keep the viewers in a way, attached to the characters. They feel all sorts of emotion for the main or minor characters. They feel compassion & sympathy for the jilted lover, anger for the wronged, and empathy for the wounded. No matter the scenario, the viewer will be left feeling some type of way afterwards. But that what makes for a good show…. you get the viewer to feel what the writer intends for the spectator to

    Among these were Friday Night Lights, running from 2006-2011, almost identical to Gossip Girl’s runtime; 90210, airing from 2008-2013, again very similar run-time; and The OC with the different run-time of 2003-2007, but the target audience was and still is very similar. To begin, most of these shows implemented one or multiple factors from Gossip Girl. I address the runtime for context, though it is not different now currently accessing the show on Netflix, because all of these compared shows are in the related or recommended suggestions along with Gossip Girl on Netflix and online. The reboot of 90210 which began airing the year after Gossip Girl started, has the most similarities to the show because of the idea of social class and comparing the “popular” kids, to the not-so-popular.
