ATTENTION GETTER:

Obesity is a major problem in the U.S, studies show that sleep deprivation may be one of the causes of obesity.
e. When a person has one night of wakefulness it enhances hedonic stimulus processing in the brain underlying the drive to consume food, and overeat. vi. Many people that are deprived from sleep have a higher chance of developing type 2 diabetes. vii. According to Fulke “Sleep deprivation impairs memory processing when it occurs before or after learning takes place.” viii. According to Vaughan, “Sleep problems can negatively impact a person’s physical and mental health.”
E. Sleep deprivation can cause behavior changes, and one of the changes can actually help those that are going through depression.
i. Sleep loss makes people focus on negative experiences and often pick fights. ii. When a person is rested the brain filters stimuli and that separates the things that matter from the things that don’t matter. Therefore when a person does not rest the brain cannot filter these things which can lead to hallucinating. iii. Filke states that is “well known that patients suffering from a major depression can be treated with selective sleep deprivation to temporary relieve them from some of the symptoms.”
