Even twenty years after the death if the notorious serial killer, John Wayne Michael Gacy, people still tremble when they hear his name. Gacy, an American serial killer was found guilty of killing thirty-three boys and young men (Berry-Dee, 2007).
Biographical Information
Gacy was born on March 17th, 1942, and died on May 10th, 1994 by lethal injection (Greig, 2010).
John Wayne Gacy did very poorly in high school. He ended up leaving four high schools without graduating (Greig, 2010). He left to Vegas, but found it difficult to get jobs as he did not graduate from high school. He ended up doing many odd jobs. He enrolled himself in a business college …show more content…
Many believed that Gacy had shown antisocial behaviour and suffered from multiple personality disorder (Bell et al., 2014). Gacy also suffered from depression after he was released in 1970 (Greig, 2010).
Personality disorders are classified as a condition of the human mind, and thus relates to the Psychology discipline.
Impact of Serial Killer on Society Many people still live in fear after the crimes Gacy had committed. Many described Gacy as a “good man”, and never thought he would be capable of such wrongdoings. After that, many of those who lived in Gacy’s suburb will probably find it difficult to trust their neighbours. Social workers probably took all the necessary actions in order to make those impacted by the crimes feel safe. Serial killers, including John Wayne Gacy, are constantly being shown in the media and serve as a negative influence for others. Perhaps, the behaviours and actions of Gacy prompted others to react and behave in similar manners as well.
