On September 11th 2001, it was an average day for any “New Yorker”. As the honking of horns and sirens reverberated between buildings, people were accomplishment their typical morning commute routines. Subway stations and city sidewalks were crammed with commuters walking to work, and making their way towards large business complexes, tall skyscrapers and most notably the World Trade Center. These commuters did not know that in the next several hours, the most lethal and shocking terrorist attack would take place, right in front of their eyes. The War on Terror was commenced by former President (current at the time), George W. Bush. Instantaneously after the terrorist attacks on New York City and around the country, Bush was rapid to blame al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden as the core perpetrator in the heinous attack on America. During the beginning of the war, Bush gave the Taliban government an opportunity to hand over Osama bin Laden to the United States. Not including the clean up in New York City, these attacks that caused the war has been the most deadly and costly in American History. To date, over half-million foreign bodies were killed in the Global War on Terrorism. Over five thousand United States troops were injured and almost fifty thousand killed. This war has also cost United States taxpayers over one trillion dollars. Since the war is still ongoing, government budgets project the war may reach almost two million dollars by 2021. Shockingly, these numbers do not include economic assistance, military support or food for foreign countries that are helping us fight the war, such as several countries in Africa and Pakistan. In conclusion, our country and great City of New York was frightened after the September 11th, 2001 attacks. Al-Qaeda’s goal was to abolish our economy by obliterating the World Trade Center, but they were unsuccessful and in the end, brought us together. By colliding these airliners into the sides of the towers, they only scared us about flying airplanes.
