Confidentiality in the family system has many different conflicts due to the differences in status and culture among relationships. It is my responsibility to protect the information obtained in a therapy session. During individual assessment sessions with a couple I would determine how to manage secrets or other information that has not been shared within the couple by discussing the limits of confidentiality at the outset of therapy As couple’s therapist I plan to balance the individual’s right to privacy with the relationship’s need for safety, which requires an essential distinction between privacy and secrecy. Secrecy directly affects the relationship and may be kept due to fear, anxiety, or shame. As a therapist I feel it is my job to seek to safeguard the welfare and rights of their clients through considering all the aspects of the “client” when a secret is revealed like: why are they engaging in this behavior and how can I help resolve that…

With how much I share when I meet new people I honestly believe it is a defense mechanism, because if i say it then i said it on my terms. its going to take me a while to figure out the boundaries of self-disclosure for me because i'm not used to holding back when i feel that i am right or that i can relate to someone and often i think if it worked for me it should work for them. i am really going to have to stop and think to myself if the client will actually benefit or will i benefit more by sharing a personal…

Domestic violence is something that breaks my heart for so many reasons, which is why I wrote about it in a previous English course. In the past, I’ve had several close friends who have experienced domestic violence and this changes their point of view on life.…

Therefore, many cases have been studied in which the victim is forced to lie about their situation. Pretending to be a victim of domestic violence leads these victims to avoid their existing situations and ignore the traumas they had faced, which is an emotional strain in its own.…

The potential boundary problems and risk management concerns associated with self-disclosure can be considered common knowledge throughout the clinical psychology profession.
