Nonverbal Communication Analysis The documentary “Secrets of Body Language” states that body language is crucial and can illustrate the meaning behind an individual’s speech. Body language can be seen through facial expressions, body movements, tone of voice, eye contact, mannerisms, and body postures. The way a person perceives themselves through their body languages can determine the recognition and perception that an audience has towards the speaker. Speakers must portray a sense of power, confidence, and genuine feature that allows for audience members to react positively towards another. One main source of body language can be seen through the speaker’s body movements. When a speaker is able to show confidence in an area of communication, they will display an open posture, engaged hand movements, and eye contact towards their selected spectators. I felt that I was more expressionless during times when I was not talking to my participant. In the moment, I felt that I was concentration a little too hard on what my client was trying to say instead of showing more compassionate body languages. This may have made my interview feel too structured than if I was more engaged in my facial expressions. Another improvement that I find necessary would be to engage my body forward more towards my participant. Even though I have straight posture, I feel that I am not leaning forward enough to show others that I am completely engaged in our conversation. I feel that leaning forward with my upper half of my body will allow for the client and me to be engaged in the conversation. The positive and negative characteristics of this mock interview has prepared me to see the qualities I need to keep and improve in my interviews and also show the importance that body language has towards
