The Influence Computers Have on Academics
The Introduction to Computers course (COMP 1000) is a course that teaches students how to use computers and the programs within them. In a students first semester at a college like Chattahoochee Technical College, he or she lacks efficient computer skills to excel in each course. Since some people lack the knowledge of how to use a computer, the course is a good resource to obtain the knowledge needed. At Chattahoochee Technical College, the majority of the courses are taught and worked on online. Since many of the courses regularly use a computer, it would benefit each person to know how to use one. Each student at Chattahoochee Tech should be required to take the Introduction to Computers course (COMP …show more content…
Whether it be for communication, business purposes, entertainment, or whatever the purpose may be, using a computer is a part of nearly everyone’s day. Per the Huffington Post, “computing has become an inextricable part of our lives. Understanding how computers and software work, what they can and can’t do, and their impact on society is, therefore, an important part of a modern liberal arts education.” (Libeskind-Hadas). Every college student will use a computer and the different software’s that surround it. There are various programs that students must use in the classroom in order to be successful. Most people are not able to use a computer efficiently. Whether they have not used one in a long time, or have never used one at all, each student that is at a disadvantage needs to learn how to operate a computer effectively. Throughout life, a student may have to use a computer not only at college, but at work and home. Therefore, each student should take the computer course because they need to know how to use the computer and the software it contains. If a student will take the Introduction to Computers Course (COMP 1000) it will make college a little easier. Plus, knowledge they gain from the course could be used for a lifetime. Chattahoochee Technical College has a large amount of students who take all online classes. Online students would benefit from this course because it will show them how to effectively use a computer. Many first-year online students will often be confusing on how to use most of Chattahoochee’s required programs. The Introduction to Computers course (COMP 1000) could walk each student through how to use the required programs. Also, since the online students are more independent, the course will show them everything he or she would need to know about each
