Register to read the introduction… Even schools such as Elizabeth Seton School-South have areas within them that are considered to be dirty because they are not well taken care of. According to Rod Moser of Family Webicine, who blogged about “Dirty Places, Part 11: Schools”, any gathering of children would be a place of questionable hygiene. In the early 50′s, their school had full-time janitors that actually cleaned their restrooms and floors. They were respected men with wheeled buckets and mops who always talked to them. Their restrooms were clean, but he cannot say the same for schools today. Parents rarely have the opportunity to randomly visit the school’s restrooms, which they should. Several years ago, his wife used the girls’ restroom with some of the other mothers in attendance. Not only was it filthy, but there were no doors on the stalls. Obviously, the mothers were not pleased. There was no soap, no paper towels, and no seat covers. So she wanted to organize a group of appalled parents to reattach those doors, paint the graffiti, and clean that place, but the custodians’ labor union did not permit it. Swimming pools shelter faecal and urine contaminants; take a dip and you might pick up the Citrobacter freundii bacteria, an agent of infections such as pneumonia. The hot tub has also been linked to deaths from Legionnaire’s disease and pneumonia. Gyms are dripping with people’s sweat and bacteria called Staphylococcus epidermis, which causes skin infections, streptococcal infections, and candida, a yeast infection. Germs loiter in the most unlikely places. Virus can be a risk if a person gets contact to light switches, door handles, escalator handrails, and other frequently touched …show more content…
Furthermore, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What places in Elizabeth Seton School-South can be considered dirty or unsanitized? 2. How can a dirty school environment affect the community within it? 3. What can the students/teachers/faculty suggest to improve the cleanliness of the school?

Major Findings The following were the results of the study: 1. From the survey that was conducted, here are graphical presentations of the gathered data and the results:

5 – Not a piece of garbage can be seen
4 – Only a few garbage and dirt can be seen
3 – Well maintained, but with noticeable garbage and dirt
2 – Lacks maintenance and too much dirt can be noticed
1 – Garbage and dirt can be seen all over the place
