Quantitative Research Article Critique

Quantitative Research Article Critique Appraising the research articles is a process involved in providing the best evidence-based practice to provide the best standards of nursing care for the patients (Elliott, 2001, p 555). The nurse must attempt an assessment and critical review of research studies, to check whether the research is valuable and of adequate quality to be connected to their practice (Fink, 2005). The purpose of this paper is to critique a quantitative study, “Effectiveness of turning with unequal time intervals on the incidence of pressure ulcer lesions” (Vanderwee, Grypdonck, De Bacquer, & Defloor, 2007). This paper will critically assess sections of the article keeping in mind the end goal to pick up a top to bottom comprehension. The focus of assessment is on the protection of human participants, data collection, data analysis, problem statement along with an interpretation of its findings.
Problem Statement
The researchers found that there was not enough studies on the required turning frequencies to prevent pressure ulcers. Satisfactory evidence was lacking to support for more frequent repositioning on a pressure-reducing mattress hence this study tried to investigate whether the increased frequency of repositioning in the lateral position will reduce incidence of pressure ulcer lesions (Vanderwee et al., 2007, p. 59). The hypothesis of this research was "that patients who were lying for two hours in a lateral position would experience fewer pressure
