Introduction
Mr. William Booth was the founder of The Salvation Army during the late 1800’s in London England. In one word Mr. Booth describes The Salvation Army is about taking care of others (The Salvation Army, 2016). Prior to starting The Salvation Army, Mr. Booth was a preacher who roamed the roads of London to preach the Gospel to whomever would listen. Mr. Booth’s preached a message of hope and salvation to thieves, prostitutes and the poor. One day during a disagreement with the London church leaders Mr. Booth’s integrity of the message he was preaching was questioned. As a result of this disagreement, Mr. Booth believed it was best he left London so he and his wife, Catherine Booth traveled throughout Europe performing missionary work for the next fifteen years (The Salvation Army, 2016). …show more content…
The Salvation Army provides much more than that, as mentioned above, they provide adult rehabilitation, veteran affairs services, prison ministries, elderly programs, combat traffic in persons and missing persons. Additionally, The Salvation Army provides weekly food pantry where staff and volunteers disturbed food baskets to families in local communities. When disasters strikes around the world, The Salvation Army provides relief services to those in need, they provide ministering and physical comfort. According to The Salvation Army financial statement (2015) they are the second largest charity in the United States with receiving donations of $2 billion dollars in 2014. The Salvation Army primary mission is to serve God by helping others. Unlike traditional Christian Church, the Salvation Army is organized similar to a military organization and is according to The Christian Courier (The Salvation Army, 2016). A standard church services is conducted by an ordained Salvation Army officer or a lay member.
