Religion was an important feature that had a huge impact on the people, “I went to seek for Christ”. This is the start of the poem and you already see the connection to people’s strong religious belief. During this Era the Bible was taken as the strict truth and it was the establishment of good conduct which got to be known as Victorianism, “Love looked me in the face and spake no words, but straight I knew those foot-prints were the Lord’s”. During the years of the Victorian Era many things were based on religion and morality such as, textbooks. People believed that if religion be acknowledged by all, morality would turn into the "end" to wrongdoing and poverty. Since the poet lived during this time, the influence of religion can be seen in his work as well. James Russell Lowell wrote the poem “The Search” with including a variety of different aspects that back up the significance of religion for the people living in that Era. “The Search” is about a journey of someone.
