The Unspeakable Analysis

Joni Mitchell is a Canadian singer-songwriter who according to Rolling Stones is “ one of the greatest songwriters of all time”. In the book “The Unspeakable” author Meghan Daum discusses the Joni Mitchell problem which is fans or non-fans, liking or disliking Mitchell's art for the wrong reasons. We can also call the fans and non-fans consumers. Daum makes the claim that Mitchell’s art can be interpreted in one way. Daum says the consumers see Mitchell as a romantic but to Daum that doesn’t hold true. The consumers are interpreting Mitchell’s art as pro romantic. Daum states, “They presume the lyrics are confessional. They assume they're listening to love songs. They assume this woman who writes lines like ‘ I want to knit you a sweater / I want to write you a love letter’ is the mouthpiece for romanced-crazed girls everywhere.” (Daum 151) Here Daum gives an example of lyrics she thinks consumers are incorrectly interpreting. Daum goes on to show she disagrees with the …show more content…
This argument is based on an experience I had with a song where the lyrics could have been interpreted in multiple ways and either way is fine. The song I am referring to is “XO TOUR Llif3” by Lil Uzi Vert in which he says “all my friends are dead”. In rap culture, the term dead presidents are used to represent money as dead presidents are the face of the bills. I had trouble deciding whether to interpret the lyrics as his physical friends are dead or all his friends are dead regarding his money. I googled what Uzi meant by the saying and there was not one correct interpretation available. In earlier songs on the project, Uzi talks about how a numerous amount of his friends have passed away. He also talks about the enormous amounts of money he has gained from rapping. I came to the conclusion that both interpretations were acceptable and that art can be interpreted in multiple

Pop culture 's mythology theory, discovered by a Frenchman named Roland Barthes, appears in many forms of media today. An example of this would be The Legend of Zelda, in which Link must rescue the land of Hyrule similar to how many Greek heroes had to save the world. People use mythology theory every day and don 't even realize it. From naming their dog Zeus after the Greek god of lightning to watching the anime Hetalia to understand history and cultures better. One movie that uses this theory is the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou? directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.…

I'm getting a negative feeling from Jimmy Santiago Baca, “What is Broken Is What God Blesses,” foundation. The sound that underscores the visual and the sound of the pathetic lady of sixty come riding her corroded bike stress sympathy mirroring our endowments. From my perspective, eventhough the vitality of the sonnet originates from firsthand involvement, it loses its adjust. At the point when the creator expresses, the smashed divider that declares opportunity to the world, we work, we stress, we adore yet dependably with sympathy mirroring our endowments—in our brokenness flourishes life, flourishes light, flourishes the embodiment of our quality, all makes the lyric intriguing. In this effective lyric, Baca praises humankind in its blemish…

In the article, Absorbing the Impossible, Maureen Dowd, a feminist and a slight liberal lean, suggests that Donald Trump won the President-elect because of the hidden Trump supporters and the misunderstood lack of Clinton supporters throughout the nation. Dowd develops her ideas further by addressing how Trump won for a combination of reasons including but not limited to: the annoyance of current Democratic government (“too much regulation, too much government”) strong dislike of opposing candidate (“one of the most flawed candidates in history”), and the possibility of another ‘Clinton’ in the White House (“unable to condone the Clintons’ miasma of financial and ethical cheesiness”). Using these examples, Dowd illuminates how Trump was able…

Who would have thought to use Social Media along with Photography to be major tools of an awareness campaign? The image above is example of what is “Project Unbreakable”. This particular picture talks about epidemic Child Sexual Abuse. Project Unbreakable lies within a sub genre of awareness campaigns. In this particular analysis I am going to argue that “Project Unbreakable” is able to increase awareness about Child Sexual Abuse through social media and photography, and is successful in making us realize the pain of survivors through color of posters and text and words.…

Weeping in the Playtime of Others In reading Weeping in the Playtime of Others: America’s Incarcerated Children by Kenneth Wooden, I learned about the devastating, heartbreaking truths about how corrupt our juvenile legal system is. I knew there was probably some violence within the facilities, but I didn’t realize the extent of the torture and physical abuse the youth experienced within in the juvenile correctional facilities across America. I was shocked by the amount of youth that weren’t actually what we would consider criminals. These children were incarcerated because they were emotionally disturbed, mentally handicapped or because they ran away from home to escape a bad situation.…

In our world today, money is seen to be something that is needed to be successful or happy in life. People with less money tend to look up to those with more money in that way. In the short story, "Why, You Reckon?" Langston Hughes uses a colored man's point of view in a pre-Civil Rights Movement Era to show that even if someone has money, it doesn't mean they have a happy life. Money is the center of anything and everything today.…

An important topic within metaphysical philosophy is theodicy, which works to justify the existence of God even though evil exists. John Hick and Steven Cahn in their respective works, “The Problem of Evil” and “The Problem of Good”, provide valid arguments for the existence and probable non existence of God in the presence of good and evil. Through the reversal of Hick’s argument, I feel that Cahn establishes the illogic behind Hick’s view and proves that because both good and bad will always exist within the world, based on Hick’s reasoning and premises, it is likely that soul making and God do not exist to serve the greater good. In order for one to truly understand Hick’s missteps in logic, first you must understand what he is trying…
