The general public depends on media the for information and accepts it as a valid source. The news articles that we regularly read contain information that is highly disputed. Anthropogenic global warming is a major topic that gets many comments and views from people all over the world. The information presented in the articles might fail to persuade their readers, or give proper evidence, and may give opinions based on emotion. In this paper, I will analyze the rhetorical strategies used by two news articles. The first article is titled, “Phoenix will be Almost Unlivable by 2050 Thanks to Climate Change,” written by Mike Pearl. Simply, it is the rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s climate, and we can’t deny the fact that the Earth’s temperature is increasing. Even a minimum rise in temperature of the earth’s climate has catastrophic effects. Global warming is caused by greenhouse gases which trap the sun rays inside the earth’s atmosphere, increasing the temperature on earth. As mentioned in a quote, “Human activities have added greenhouse gases to the atmosphere” (National Academy of Sciences B2) science proves human activities are the main cause of global warming. But, there have also been comments arguing that human activities are not the cause of climate change. He provides the readers with propositions about the current climatic condition, and appeals to the readers with logos and ethos in his writing. The writer explains about the reasoning provided by experts, such of meteorologist Eric Holthaus, climatologist David Hondula, and researcher Ray Quay. Giving the claims from the experts, quoted by Pearl in his paper, is a good way of persuading the readers about the article. Also, the writer has used good strategies in his article such as his mentioning the current conditions of different places of the world like Arizona, and California, which has helped readers know that climate change is not something that is about to happen, but is happening right now, and it’s already very bad. He has properly analyzed the ongoing problem created by climate change, drought and rise in temperature. He has given a good chain of circumstances that are occurring and might occur in the future, such as, he has given the statement made by climatologist Hondula, “As much as 20 percent of the [Colorado] River could dry up by 2050”. Furthermore, the writer explains how there is lack of proper solutions to the current problems, drought and rise in temperature specifically, and provides reasoning saying that once these problems increases people will start getting groundwater, and within the timeframe of 2050,
