Methodology
The basis of my research is to determine in what ways students retain knowledge in a face-to-face and eLearning environment. I will first examine how students are motivated and engaged, and then research what strategies and methods are used to measure knowledge retention.
There are two major approaches to research: qualitative and quantitative research. Yilmaz (2013) explains the difference between qualitative and quantitative research “in terms of their epistemological, theoretical and methodological underpinnings” (p.312). Qualitative research as defined by Saldaña (2011) “is an umbrella term for a wide variety of approaches to methods for the study of natural social life” (p.4). Cooper (2012) proposes …show more content…
Systematic reviews “involve a detailed and comprehensive plan and search strategy derived a priori, with the goal of reducing bias by identifying, appraising, and synthesizing all relevant studies on a particular topic” (Uman, 2011, n.p.). My intention is to collect published literature drawn on current research to interpret and synthesize knowledge, data, and statistics. My goal is to identify the useful data from that published literature with respect to knowledge retention in face-to-face and eLearning environments (Belcher, Rasmussen, Kemshaw & Zornes, 2015, p. …show more content…
I will consider the following keywords in my search terms: knowledge retention, knowledge transfer, knowledge comparison, education, eLearning, online learning, face-to-face, instruction and classroom. After applying the keywords in my search for resources, the focus will then narrow to appropriate resources’ specific to the topic of study.
Using multiple searches, the keywords noted above, as well as, any new keywords that may arise. I will explore keyword searches individually and together in various arrangements in order to identify sources less easily found. Upon completion of the searches, I will cull the data collected by looking for specific studies in the area in knowledge retention in face-to-face and eLearning. I will also give preference to articles related to adult learning theory, motivation, and engagement. My final number of resources to collect will be between 20 and 30 articles pertaining to both face-to-face and eLearning
