Descriptive Essay On Country House

Decent Essays
As I pull up to the most convenient parking place, I notice the aged sign in the front window, that spelled out Country House Family Restaurant. I race towards the front door hoping to get seated and waited on before the huge crowd arrived for the dinner rush. Right away a waitress greets me, her name tag says in bold print, Emma. Emma takes me to a corner table in the party room. She then apologizes saying that they are so busy there are no empty tables in the main room of the restaurant. I proceed to tell her I will be happier sitting in the quiet party room rather than being in the obnoxious main room. Emma pulls out her note pad and asks me what I would like to drink.

“Water will be just…” before I could continue my sentence another waitress

Is there anything else I can get you?”

“I think this will do for now. Thanks!”

She departs and once again I am left alone. I look outside the party room to see if it had died down yet but the restaurant seemed to be still packed. By the looks of it you could tell this was definitely a family restaurant. In the back table two teenagers sat on what seemed like their first date, a group of older men sat playing cards while their wives tell the latest gossip, and to the right sits a couple with their 3 kids. What a wonderful environment for local townspeople to come together and eat.

Here comes my food. My mouth starts to water as I smell this greasy cheeseburger in front of me. As my waitress sets down my food in front of me she explains her shift ends soon and Debra will now be my waitress. I quickly ask if she could spare me a few minutes and have a quick interview with me. She agreed to the interview and sat down.

“Hi, I guess I should properly introduce myself, I am Ashleigh Metzger. I just had a few questions about the

Ask me anything.”

“Alrighty. Let’s start. As I can see tonight you were extremely busy, how do you plan for a busy night?”

“Normally for the waitresses we stock up all togo boxes, cups, and napkins. Next we make sure we have plenty of lettuce salad, dressings, butter, sour cream, and ice. Pretty much all we do is stock up anticipating the busy night. However, tonight we were not thinking we were going to be this busy so we were not very prepared.”

“How many people did you expect to do tonight and how many people did you actually do?”

“Tonight we were planning on doing around 50 people but tonight we ended with 124 people.”

“Oh my goodness.”

“Yeah you are telling me. We were a bit stressed out but now it is starting to calm down so all is good.”

“That seems like a very busy night. I noticed in the restaurant many different ages in tonight is it typically like this or is there usually a majority on the age of who eats

Every time I walk into Texas Roadhouse my eyes wonder over to where the rolls and their special cinnamon butter waiting to be consumed by the customer. I hear country music playing in the background, and feel peanuts crumbling under my feet like leaves on a beautiful autumn day. Without looking at the menu, my mind is already preparing my stomach for the flavorful food that I am about to encounter. Texas Roadhouse gives the Newark population somewhere local to get a great steak while getting a significate value. From personal experience most of the other steakhouses will get very pricey for a family of five making it difficult to dine at their restaurant while living on a tight budget.…

My expectations before participating in this activity was for it to not be as authentic as it was. I did not realize that there was a place downtown that had such real and good food and wondered why I haven’t heard of this place before. Also, I was surprised with the poverty I saw around the area. I have always grown up in areas that have a decent amount of money and have never been to a spanish speaking country or area before. This experience really opened my eyes to the fact that there are places out there that still have authenticity and still try to resist becoming “Americanized” in society.…
