The Dutch painters, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606–1669) painted over 40 self-portraits and Vincent Van Gogh, (1853–1890) painted over 30 self-portraits. An interesting aspect of Rembrandt’s self-portraits, writers talk about the quality and techniques, but never, about why there 's so many and the reason behind them. Nobody writes about, how they record his progress from a young man, to when he was an old man deteriorating, losing his spirit or vigor in his face. Van Gogh self-portraits show his ‘tormented mind’ or maybe we only see his suffering; because we know him for the ‘cutting-his-own-ear-off’ incident. One of the characteristics of his paintings is the sunny yellow ambiance that infuses them. People always write that Van Gogh indulged heavily in absinthe, a drink known to produce ‘yellow vision’ in addicts. Although this may be true, however, it can be the case that Van Gogh as a painter knew, yellow helps with decision making as it relates to clarity of thought and ideas.
