Films about war have always caught my attention. American Sniper was no different. American Sniper is a film that was released in 2015, based on the book written by Chris Kyle. Chris Kyle is known as the most lethal sniper in American history. He was a United States Navy SEAL, joining the elite squad when he was 25 years old. By his own account, Chris Kyle says he killed 160 enemies while protecting our military men. His primary mission was to protect his comrades and he took his mission to heart. His accuracy saved countless numbers of lives and made him a primary target of the enemies. His skill landed him four tours in Iraq fighting for our country. Bradley Cooper portrayed Chris Kyle very well. From his looks (especially when he grew his beard) to his shot accuracy that was portrayed in the movie. The PTSD parts of the film were shown well, even to be such a controversial issue. Even the acting in the active war state was prime for the circumstances, which was quite surprising to me. Especially when comparing it to other war films.
The plot of the movie is always one of the most important parts. American Sniper fared well over the entire film. From the beginning, with the Islamic call to prayer, which probably hit home for many Iraq War veterans, to the active war scenes, to the struggles with his wife and post-war, and finally to Chris Kyle’s murder. Every aspect of the movie kept you locked in with suspense on what was going to happen next.
The setting of the movie is also very important. Obviously, they weren’t able to set American Sniper in Iraq, so it was important for them to make the movie look as close as possible. Having not been to Iraq, I can’t say for certain that the scenes shown in “Iraq” look exactly like Iraq would, but when I envision what a war zone would look like, American Sniper did a great job of portraying the
