A Reflection Of Community Service As A Community

Improved Essays
Community service is something I have grown up doing. Throughout my life I have volunteered a lot of my time to organizations within my community. I have served at the community soup kitchen, helped young Monett Water Thrasher Swim Team members improve their strokes, and volunteered as a table worker at Monett High School and Monett Youth Club wrestling tournaments. I have always been very involved in helping individuals within my community. I feel as though performing community service as a child and young adult has shaped me into the person I am today. Over the past few weeks I have volunteered seven hours of my personal time to Kerri Cloud from Central Park Elementary School in Monett, Missouri. Through this service, I was able to directly help one of the teachers at this elementary school. This process was very rewarding and eye opening for me. I gained an understanding of how stressful and time consuming her job can be, and because of my volunteer work I was able to improve her situation. She was so appreciative of the time I spent working with her and I could tell that, even though the work I did was not very “high skill,” I alleviated a lot of her stress and made her life a little easier. I believe community service is very important and should be done by every citizen at least once. It teaches you to appreciate the things that you have as well as the lives of other people. Throughout my life I plan to volunteer in my community whenever it is possible. The thing I love about community service is how rewarding it is. It feels great to know that by doing certain, sometimes insignificant, tasks, you are improving the lives of others in your community. Community service is not as bad as some people make it out to be. I myself had an internal groan when I heard that community service was required and would be set as a grade. I had only known volunteerism as doing a dull boring task with no discernible reward. But after experiencing it for myself I found it quite the contrary. Volunteering is a way to meet new people and witness a group working toward a greater cause.…

I have donated time in my city, state, country and internationally. Through the many opportunities that I have had for community service, I have been able to broaden my views, and look outside my community at how others experience our world. I have visited very diverse communities ranging from the inner city of Detroit, MI to a small, economically depressed village in Honduras, to the mountains of Pennsylvania and inside homes very different from mine in my own…

Ever since I was little, I’ve always wanted to help people. Being a Boy Scout gave me the opportunity to do so. When I was eight years old I joined the cub scouts which began my life long campaign of helping people. I started off learning to take the oath to serve the people weather it be by the organization or myself. I assisted by selling popcorn for charity organizations ( The San Antonio Food Bank and The Knights of Columbus) or for money that we needed for our camp out trips.…

After my robotics team fell apart, I was invited to participate in a robotic team of five members in a rural community forty-five miles from my home. I struggled to find people who shared my passion at a school with 100 high school students. In this new team, I found my future, but I also found struggles.…

I have completed many hours of community service and I believe that it is my responsibility to involve myself in my community in any way possible. Getting involved in the community helps build a strong character and it teaches certain values that will benefit other communities. Speaking of community improvement, it is also my responsibility to pay any taxes set for me by our state and federal governments. Without taxpayer money, it would be impossible to maintain many of our most precious and crucial government funded organizations. If the American people allowed those organizations to fade away, we would be hurting our country and helping ourselves.…

Many of the organizations that I am involved in, including FFA, 4-H, and LYO, take part in several service projects throughout the year. As a result, I have been involved in multiple community service activities over the course of my high school career, such as taking a week-long mission trip to Nashville, Tennessee this past summer, or just spending an evening during the holiday season Christmas caroling around town. Although some people aren't always willing to give up their time to help others, I believe that an essential aspect of being a member of a community is being willing and able to devote your time to helping others. It helps you develop positive relationships, and it lets the people you're helping know that there are places they can turn to for support. It helps you build up your responsibility, reliability, and work ethic, and it provides community members with a chance to establish lasting connections with one another.…
