Satraphi is a rebellious character. Many of the actions that she takes against her family and
teachers are rebellious. When she rebelled against her parents, she went to the demonstrations
and protested against the Shah when she was strictly forbidden. Satraphi protested to fight for her
family that were put in prison and killed by the shah. Teenagers now are getting more rebellious
as time goes on. They misbehave and going out of their way to do whatever they feel is best for

Rebellion was taken more seriously
in the work more than it is now. Parents' are more familiar with it so they understand and
manage it quite well. Not only was Marjane rebellious, but so were here family and friends.

drinking. He denied it, but they didn’t believe it. In America they are more lenient. Drinking is
not illegal, you just can’t drive drunk or drink while driving. Sometimes parents rebel for their

poster so she tore linen out of a jacket and shoved the poster in there. In America when you are
doing things against the law, you are not doing it for your kids. When Satraphi and Mehri were

going to follow. Parents discipline children in the United States the same way they do in Iran
to let them know it is not okay to be doing the things they are doing. But it isn’t granted they will
