Prostitution Vs Pornography Essay

Sexual behaviors are viewed differently in all parts of the world. If you go to a town where people are mainly religious sex is something that goes on behind closed doors only. Sex is only between a man and wife, and public displaces of affection are not acceptable. If you go to a party town just as Las Vegas, NV it’s a way of life. There is a world of difference between a town like the one I live in and Las Vegas. Most people view prostitution as disgusting or as something that shouldn’t exist. I’m sure people don’t wake up and say they want to prostitute or aspire to be a prostitute. There are endless reasons as to why an individual would begin prostitution as an occupation. It could be drugs, a bad home life or the lack of funds. Maybe the individual is attending school and has no way to pay for it or their living. The individual could …show more content…
I’m not sure how pornography is accepted but prostitution is illegal. Both are receiving money for sexual acts. You can find pornography just about anywhere. You can find in the store, on the Internet, or you can rent it right off of your television. I believe that if prostitution is illegal then pornography should be too. As for pornography stars I’m sure a number of things have to go wrong in their life to pick this occupation. Pornography is glorified to look like a respectable job opportunity. There are awards for pornography film called the AVN awards. The film industry prance these actors around as if what they have done are morally acceptable. How can you say a person standing on the street corner can’t receive money for have sex with another individual, but it is acceptable for multiple people to have sex, film it, show the world, and get a massive amount of money for it? As a society we do not make sense. I feel as if this situation contradicts itself. I believe one is legal and the other is not because it would difficult to tax

Many people are willing to take the risk to fight underage prostitution, so they can rescue victims and provide them safe environment. In the same article, Kimberly states, “One of the most obvious necessities, and a struggle encountered by victim service providers across the country, is finding appropriate, safe housing for victims, because simply too few protective shelters exist to fully meet the needs of this population” (184). In addition to the lack of shelters as Kimberly says, there are actually few safe shelters. It is really difficult to secure underage prostitution victims because pimps have all the information about them. The victims can’t even go back to their own family because it is not safe for them.…

One of the topic we discussed in our women and gender studies class is prostitution, which happens with both sexes but is filled with mainly women. Prostitution can be forced or it can be chosen. The two articles I am going to use in my essay are; “Getting Away With Hating It: Consent in the Consent of Sex Work” by Charlotte Shane and “Prostitute 'Nancy' Shares Her Story: 'You Can Lose Your Life If You're Out Here'” by Rachel Cook. Both articles contain real life accounts from actual prostitutes and the way they see their profession. I am going to use both in my argument that prostitution cannot be just like any other job and therefore should not be made legal or be legal where it is.…

However, according to HG.com, a government information site, “every year in the U.S., between 70,000 and 80,000 people are arrested for prostitution, costing taxpayers approximately $200 million” (HG.com). While prostitution is illegal in the United States, citizens spend an estimated 14.6 billion each year for sex services (havocscope.com). Clearly, prostitution is a major industry in American culture. Tracey Pierce Sonntag, an instructor at Eastern Michigan University, expresses the economic gain that would benefit the United States if prostitution was decriminalized in a her proposal argument essay "Case for Legalization of Prostitution” written in 2009. “The average annual income of an employee at one Nevada brothel working only one week per month is at least $100,000 (qtd. in Ayres).…

Therefore, even with new technologies and efforts to help these people, there is still a vast crowd struggling for food and clean water to survive. Alternatively, there are about 80,000 Americans that are arrested for prostitution or soliciting sex. Therefore, there more than likely are a myriad more prostitutes in the country. Countless studies report that the majority of prostitutes wish they could get out of prostitution and about 40% of them are former child prostitutes. Therefore, we do have prostitution in adolescents versus them growing up and becoming prostitutes as said by Johnathan…

Prostitution is considered the world’s oldest profession and has been around for many centuries. In the ancient world, prostitution was often sacred and the women who practiced it were considered goddesses in their times. In this century, our opinions of women and now men who pursue prostitution as a career have changed, and we no longer see it as secret, but something that is forbidden and frowned upon by many people around the world. Some of the many benefits of having prostitution being legalized would be taking prostitutes off the street into a safer place, increasing tax revenue for our city, and being able to contain the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. No one should have the right to be told what to do and what not to do with…
