We left Chicago on Monday June 30th, 2014, and we arrived in Cooperstown on Saturday July 4th, 2014. We arrived in New Jersey the next morning where we would stay two nights. On the second day in New Jersey, we took a train from New Jersey to New York City. New York City was a really cool place to see with all the high-rises. We saw the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial, the New World Trade Center, and Times Square.…
It was a beautiful Friday afternoon. The May weather was perfect, with a slight refreshing breeze. Excitement was in the air as we all prepared for the 23 hour drive to Colorado. Imagine a place where everywhere you look, you see beauty, everywhere you smell is crisp fresh air. Everywhere surrounding you are ginormous mountains with snow slowly melting and one huge blue body of water. There are trees all over the place, and everywhere you look you see nature and all of God’s creations. This fascinating place is Lake Tahoe, in Nevada. Lake Tahoe is absolutely one of the most gorgeous places I have ever been.…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…
In the fifth grade during spring break my family and I decided to go to Clifty Falls and walk around in the caves and on the walking trails. I had told my mom I was having trouble breathing that morning and wanted to stay home, but of course she would not let me because it was a”family event. ” We were there long enough to eat lunch and travel down a path to a waterfall and on the way back we decided to stop in one of the caves. About that time I felt my chest tightening up and knew that this was a bad idea to go into a damp cave when all I wanted to do was to go home and sleep.…
It was a slow moving watercourse most of the year but in the spring it flowed with force, swollen with the winter melt and emptying its contents into the Columbia River, before moving downstream onto Cascade Locks. At this time of the year the river was halfway to being frozen. The better part of Autumn was finished and the trees following the river were stark and almost leafless, the colorful reds and yellows of The Fall giving way to a brown carpet of mush. Today the black water was unhurried, its surface pockmarked by raindrops with the occasional swirl to draw attention to its icy currents.…
Throughout my life I have experienced many events have laid down the foundation for the future I am building. One of the most influential and eye-opening was a trip I took to Yosemite National Park during my junior year of high school. The trip was offered to high school students in Northern California, provided by the McConnell Foundation- an independent foundation that awards grants to nonprofit organizations, public education, and government entities. The goal of the trip was to educate students on the importance of the national park, learn about its ecology, explore its natural wonders, and to interact with and meet other students.…
Imagine driving five people in one car for 14 hours in one day to reach a destination just to leave in four days to another state. This is exactly what our family did this past summer. We left the great state of Texas to meet our aunt, uncle, and cousins in Denver, Colorado. After that, we left Colorado for Wichita, Kansas. Then, finally, back to home sweet home.…
Rhode Island Trip I started out in the delta airport of Michigan with amazing looking seats and I sit third class, but I don’t complain about I was about to travel over a thousand miles to get to Rhode Island where my dad was. “I’m super excited to see him”. I said to my mom”.…
We got some really good cinnamon rolls while we were waiting and they were amazing. When my mom’s friends finally got back we left. They started launching fireworks while we were on our way to leave the park. We watched them until we got back to the parking lot ,and all I heard was my little brother saying, woah! The day after we started packing up and getting ready to go back to Michigan.…
Clomp! Clomp! Clomp! Our boots pound the rocky Colorado trail in the middle of a cold, starry night above the massive tree line with a spectacular view of the lights of Leadville, as we hiked our first 14,000 foot mountain of the summer. Clomp!…
A Slippery Situation Every year, during the New Year holiday, my family goes on a ski vacation. The location varies, but this year we decided to travel to Vail, Colorado. There we met up with some friends of my parents. I have skied since I was very young. Every since I was little, my parents put my sister and me into ski school.…
The next morning, we had went to this trail kind of thing where you would walk and there would be carvings of like cartoon characters in the trees. For instance, there was a carving of Spongebob and Elmo too. It was a pretty cool experience to me, and we also saw a deer. That night, we had went to a steakhouse to eat at for dinner. The morning had come and we were happy for that day because we were going to a local fair they were having.…
