According to the data provided from the Florida Department of Education’s website--particularly the “Average Teacher’s Salaries” document, the average salary for teachers in Florida’s districts is $47,950. However, the salaries do vary from each district; sometimes in extreme ways. Such as the difference in pay between Monroe and Holmes, the latter of the two having a $25,119 drop in salary compared to the other. Now, this is the most extreme case in the document; using simple math one can more accurately evaluate the variances of each district with the average salary. The process in which I used is as followed: (for a rough statistic) 47 was used in place of $47,950, …show more content…
This sentiment is not only for the teachers of Florida but for the educators of America. The fact that some teachers can start at $29,851 like in South Dakota as evident in the data looked at for question two is simply terrible. There are some colleges which will suck that yearly outcome from a person in less than twelve months, but yet teachers are expected to make a living and perhaps pay off their own college education with it. Two semesters ago while in my Student for Success class we read an article talking about how teacher work on average 10 hours and 40 mins a week, not including weekends and not including time spent with students out of school, such as replying to emails, or having phone conferences. Teachers not only have the stress of day to day job activities, like teaching the class or setting up the schedules for class but also the emotional burdens of trying to help every student they come in contact with. Couple with the amount of time already spent on having to grade teacher’s minds almost never shut-off during the school week. A pay anything under $40,000 a year is laughable when all these factors are considered. Yet, the sad thing is, this did not happen overnight, years of neglect on the education system has contributed to these poignant salaries. The amount of effort put into being a teacher is unmeasurable, the impacts teachers can have on students is more so, this is why I beleive teacher salaries are not reasonable for the amount of work that is
