In today’s society, racial out lash is dominating media, families’ lives, and conversations everywhere. One of the mains concerns of people is how to stop the violence and racial discrimination that is happening more abundantly. Former democratic nominee Bernie Sander stated, “We must pursue policies to transform this country into a nation that affirms the value of its people of color. That starts with addressing the five central types of violence waged against black, brown and indigenous Americans: physical, political, legal, economic and environmental” (Issues: racial injustice, 2016). Each of these issues is aimed to segregate and suppress the minority from gaining grounds in one fashion or another. The United States is a country rooted in change. Whether caught up in an international war or embroiled in internal strife, America is in a constant state of flux, rarely settling into peaceful periods and frequently falling into trouble. Economic depressions, natural disasters, civil war, international incidents, and political scandals are only a few of the many trials that the United States have faced as a nation. While all of these obstacles loom large in our heritage, one of the greatest points of contention throughout America’s history has been that of racial diversity, its associated conflicts, and reactions sparked by them.…

Through all of our readings and discussions from this class, we have studied many issues related to diversity. Diversity plays a major role in our culture today; however, discrimination based on race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and gender has been apart of America’s history since the beginning. This class taught me a lot about discrimination because of diversity, and I want to focus on specifically on racial issues. The first excerpt we read regarding racial issues discussed immigration to America in the late 1800’s.…

Race Relations As reported by The Collins English Dictionary, the denotation of race relations is “relations between members or communities of different races within one country”, and relations meaning “the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected”. Therefore, by combining these two definitions, it can be determined that race relations can loosely be translated to “the way in which members of a community of different races are connected.” Although race relations in the United States of America have seemingly improved in the past fifty years, there is still a tremendous amount of room for improvement. As envisioned by one of the most iconic civil Rights Activists, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Unites Stated should…

From a White-perspective, race has always been an issue that affects “the other” – Blacks, Asians, and other “minority” racial groups. It was assumed (and largely still is) that whites dominated other races both qualitatively and quantitatively. For this reason, the societal status of these marginalized races have always been determined by whites. Historical evidence in the form of slavery, public segregation, forced migration and other racially-based abuses of minority races demonstrate this privilege naturally afforded to whites as a means of maintaining their superiority. Even through the present day this White privilege is evident.…

The relationship between the majority and minority in America has been a shaky, rocky road. Whites and all the other races have had quite an interesting relationship, with lots of ups and downs. The history reveals many nasty, shady events that can be placed on both sides. Because of such an unsteady past, much of the concern today can be seen through protests, marches, and riots across the country today. Many minorities feel as if they have been getting the short end of the stick for a long time and now, in a country where minority’s numbers are constantly on the rise, voices calling for change are finally being heard.…
