Did you know that in thirty-two years the ocean is expected to be completely empty? In 2048 the whole ecosystem will be wiped out! This is incredibly alarming; the ocean is a huge resource for the world. Biodiversity is key to the survival of the ocean however over the last few years’ loss of species has been rapidly increasing leading to the destruction of our ecosystem. I believe that there are a variety of things that contribute to this crisis like pollution, tourism, over fishing and lack of knowledge on this topic. The most important concept to take away from this issue is; why is the loss of biodiversity increasing at such a rapid speed? I think its important to find out how we can stop this issue to prevent …show more content…
Although many fishermen rely on the ocean to make a living it is completely destroying the biodiversity in our ecosystem. I think there should be rules or guidelines set in place, or if there already are rules they should either be stricter or revaluated. What I found most interesting was that 29% of edible fish and seafood species have declined by 90%(worm et. Al). the loss of species due to overfishing is extreme. Although I think the fisherman have a legitimate right to fish, fishing in excess is not a right. In 2014 president Obama proposed a plan that would protect the ocean and would take immediate steps to stop over fishing. Although I don’t know a whole lot about his plan or if it is still in affect, I think there still needs to be more efforts, at this point it is still a concern that has only gotten …show more content…

Another thing to look into is pollution, more importantly how is waste being disposed? It is important to know how local places along the shore are disposing of waste often times it can be right into the ocean. Lastly I want to delve deeper into how the government is helping, are there laws set in place to improve this? I’m not familiar with any rules or laws set in place for the ocean, however I feel like they must not be strong if the problem is only getting
