Qualities Of A Good Teacher Essay

What characteristics make a good teacher? This is a question that many people will hear more than once throughout their life. Some qualities that come to mind (for me) are: having the ability to prepare your students for future classes, having a friendly attitude toward your students, having the respect of the student community as a whole, having the ability to make great applications in many different fields inside and outside of class, having an inspirational aura, and having the ability to transform the lives of your students. After thinking about all of these qualities, I feel as if there was one teacher at my old high school that has all of these qualities plus more. Her name is Mrs. Kathleen Kunkle. She was my English and literature teacher for two years at my old high school. Let me explain why I feel she is the best teacher I have ever had.
The first reason that she deserves the title of being the best teacher I ever had is that she completely changed the level of confidence I had when it came to writing papers. When I graduated from middle school, I was not very good at writing papers at all. In fact, I often struggled with them in middle school. This was no different when I entered my freshman English class in high school. My teacher for

I was becoming a stronger writer because my foundations in writing were improving as I was going through this English course because she took the time to explain what I needed to do in order to improve. Instead of criticizing and ridiculing my mistakes; she encouraged them. After about the first two or three papers, I had a different attitude toward writing English papers. I knew that I would continue to improve and I knew that the feedback that I would get from this teacher was going to be meaningful and helpful. I began to write more elaborately and I began to develop a greater sense of appreciation toward

Passion, respect, enthusiasm, professionalism, sensitivity, humor and heart are qualities in which principals seek to find in potential teachers. In an article by Gary Hopkins, What Qualities Do Principals Look for in a New Teacher, principals identified the most important qualities they seek in potential teachers. Gary Cardwell, a principal from Crocket Elementary School, stated, “It’s impossible to select one characteristic that sets a teacher candidate apart from others. I would never use a single characteristic to employ a teacher, rather I consider many characteristics as part of a mosaic that makes up an entire principal” (Hopkins, 2016). When principals hire teachers, it is critical that they identify a candidates strengths and weaknesses.…

Coming into English 101, I really did not know what to expect. This was my first college writing class so I had no idea what it was going to be like. In high school I would have considered myself to be a decent writer, not the best or not the worst. I would never impress anyone with my writing skills but I could still come across as educated on my topic.…

During this time I was having trouble on writing a top level high school paper like a lot of the other students in my class. Looking back on this you could tell that eventually my lack of writing skills would catch up to me and it happened. When I completed the required class over the summer I felt more confident in my writing skills than ever before. I remember our first essay for english III and feeling nervous because it was my first graded essay since taking the class. Once I completed it I remember feeling confident in my work, which is something I really have not felt when writing a paper for a while.…

I’ve never worked as hard or as passionately on my work as I have done this year, and my new found way of doing my work is what made me grow as a student. As a reader, I was able to advance my way of reading, considering how I read way more into the text and note patterns too. This is probably because you manage to drill into my head the sort of guidelines needed in order for this to happen, such as if an author thinks something is important he’ll repeat it. Due to these lessons, I changed how I wrote my essays since I became even more invested in my writing. And I became a bit more confident in my writing due to my friends who complimented my writing and you who believed in me and in my writing.…

Thank you Mrs. Hogan for teaching the class in a way no other teacher has taught me. You were always calm and understood why students did certain things. You would always make jokes so we are still paying attention. Sometimes you would get mad but you had a reason to be mad. Whenever a recent class got you mad you would always tell us that you were mad.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

In reading, I would just read instead of looking up the difficult word or using context clues to figure out what the word means. Now during my reading I annotate and look up unknown vocabulary words. When I look up the difficult word, I would find the closest appropriate definition.…
