Register to read the introduction… Not every client sees their need for education and learners may not realize what they do not know or what they want to know, so it is up to the educator to assist in the identification, clarification and prioritization of the learners needs (Bastable, 2014). However, collaboration between nurse and client is key due to the fact that learners provide the most important information regarding their education needs. When you engage the learner in identifying their own needs it creates a motivation within them to learn because they know they are investing their time into a unique program tailored to their needs (Bastable, 2014). At the addictions facility this indicator is demonstrated through many different ways. The nurses make an effort to get to know each client and their history by reading through the charts before they get admitted so that the best care can be provided. The addiction workers and counselors meet with each client individually to determine what the client would like to get out of their admission to the unit and what specific resources could benefit the client. Collaboration in determining the client's learning needs is also seen through the open discussion group sessions.
