Americans should not have to fight for their right to bear arms. This right to bear arms was given to us by our forefathers, of whom, many died fighting for those rights. The entitlement is so valuable to the American people that the law was placed second on the bill of rights. In today’s world, many politicians are trying with all of their power to make personal gun ownership illegal in the United States. In many incidences, this is done in response to the murders, mass shootings, and the use of semi-automatic assault rifles. Victims’ families of these tragic events want something done to avenge the death of their loved ones, often the families point their fingers to the interment that caused the actual death of their loved one. Where there is a large group of people, there is usually an individual looking to cause massive casualties. In a study, data provided by Duwe and Kressler revealed that “ten years before the federal gun ban 19 mass shooting took place (1983 to 1994), that there were 16 incidents during the gun ban period (1995-2004), and that 27 mass shootings occurred after the ban expired (2005-2013)” (qtd in Lemieux 75). This information shows that between the years 1983 and 1994 approximately 1.727 mass shootings took place per year, before any bans on guns had taken place. During the ban, approximately 1.778 mass shootings accrued per year, which are more shootings per year than during the period where there was no gun ban. It is also important to note that between the years 2005 and 2013, an average of exactly 3.375 mass shootings per year took place. When presented with the facts, gun control bans do not stop mass shootings, nor do they prevent them.
