A good prose-style is both a matter of choice of the words and their arrangement to form a complete meaningful sentence. Dr. Radhakrishnan is one the eminent philosopher of India who was a literate with special knowledge in handling prose style. Dr.S.Radhakrishnan was one of the most influential and recognized Indian thinkers in twentieth century. I wish to explain some important features about prose style just to explain how Radhakrishnan is well-versed in prose writing and suceeded in the features of prose writing. There are three principal characteristics of good prose, namely, clarity or lucidity, simplicity and euphony.
Clarity is the first and the greatest mark of good prose. The author should be able to make his ideas very clear to his readers. Dr. Radhakrishnan was a good prose writer who expresses his ideas in a direct manner and in the minimum possible words. Simplicity is another mark of good prose. Radhakrishnan's Indian Philosophy is a well written book on philosophy. Dr Radhakrishnan has simplified through his language the difficult subject of philosophy. The prose style of Dr.Radhakrishnan holds an universal appreciation and seems to be like a rich man from a Westernized society but it all came from a poor Brahmin family at Tamil Nadu’s Tiruttani, a town in the then Madras Presidency. He started his lifestyle in a very pitiful manner that even his father wanted him to become a priest and not to study English, he didn't have enough money to buy books. He borrowed books from his cousin, as a consequence his thesis on Vedanta philosophy hailed as one of the best only due to his style of writing.
