Register to read the introduction… There are so many different forms of contraceptives; Barrier method, such as Condoms, cervical caps, cervical shields, contraceptive sponge and diaphragm; Hormonal Methods such as the patch, vaginal rings, pills and shots. Implantable devices: such as surgical sterilization, implants, and intrauterine devices. One of the safest methods was said to be the condom. Condoms are said to be effective not only toward pregnancy, but effective against STD’s. Recent study shows that the spermicide nonoxynol 9, which many condoms are coated with, not only doesn’t guard against STD’s as people assume, but also may increase you risk of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. David Grimes, M. D. states, “Sperimicides prevent pregnancy by damaging sperms’ cell membranes, but in the process they can also break down the protective outer layer of cells that line the vagina.
