The science topic that our group will be working with for first grade fieldwork at Grover Heights Elementary school covers light and how we need light to see objects and colors. One of the five senses is sight, with out light you can not see anything. In order to see something light must be present. Some plants and animals can create their own light, but we mainly get our light from the sun, or from electricity. The first grade science standard we will be exploring is 1-PS4-2, "make observations to construct an evidence-based account that objects in darkness can be seen only when illuminated." Objects that we see with light in color differ in the absents of light. Colors that we see absorb white light and what ever color it …show more content…
Students should experience the phenomena to gain interest, to wonder about how and why to works, and to make observations that will then help them plan and carry out investigations. Students or the teacher should create a list of things they observed. The teacher should guide the students in a direction that keeps them on topic and going toward the standard and end goal of the lessons.

In the clip, Dory and Marlin are diving into the trench to find the scuba divers mask with the address where Nemo was taken. As they dive down deeper the light gets darker and darker until we can no longer see either fish. When another fish (the lantern fish) turns on its bioluminescent, we can once again see the objects (Dory and Merlin) and their colors. This clip would peak the students interests. They may have seen the movie before and relate to it or like it. I would then tell a story about myself needing to get up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water. I would share with them and ask them questions about seeing objects, and colors and shapes in the dark. I would have them share with a partner or the group a similar story of their

Mythbusting: ESP is a Well-Established Scientific Phenomenon Let’s say you’re at home, just relaxing on the couch. The day’s been great, but something feels off, you just can’t put your finger on it. Before you got home someone came into your house and moved all of your furniture over exactly one inch. It’s such a subtle difference you would never think you could notice it, but nonetheless, something feels wrong. This is a basis of the notion of ESP, Extra Sensory Perception or in short, sight beyond our senses.…

The clip Meet Me in St. Louis has a central theme of utopia as presented in the elements of the film. Through elements such as color, music, movement, lighting and film perspective, the theme of merry, fairy tale like living is advanced. The director, Vincente Minnelli, delivers the thematic concern of the oblivion to hard realities that early families apparently led. In a way, the clip appears to be attempting at a ridicule expose on the triviality fussing that the people were living at the turn of the century. The characters, camera, style, and structure are used to present the pettiness in the utopian life of the characters in the focus family.…

Writer Paul Bogard believes the preservation of natural darkness is essential. Our world’s growing reliance on artificial light causes difficulties in the development of humans, animals, and ecosystems as well. In the article “Let There Be Darkness”, Bogard uses anecdotes for personal observation, facts, and rousing feelings in order to demonstrate the argument of why natural darkness is necessary for the world to go back to its primitive state. The article begins with Bogard’s personal anecdote.…

“Open your eyes, concludes the man, and see what you can with them before they close forever.” All The Light We Cannot See written by Anthony Doerr, is an incredibly eye opening book about the ways of seeing the world. This book follows blind Marie-Laure a french girl, and Werner a orphaned german boy. The setting takes place during World War Two and follows Marie-Laure and Werner every other chapter describing their lives, and how they are affected by this horrendous time. As you read you grow attached to these essentially forgotten people who are invisible in every sense but yet seem as so important and tediously placed in the world.…

Middle Grades are probably the most difficult grades to get through for everyone. During this time of physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and moral development for these students learning about the history of Georgia is literally the last thing they think about, if they even really think about it at all. These students are some of the most difficult students to keep their attention focused on the subject matter at hand, unless of course we are discussing them, then and only then will the teacher get their full attention. During the observation assignment I noticed a few of the developmental theories that correlated with the five developmental stages of middle school students: Bronfenbrenner, Erikson, and Hall.…

George Elliot once wrote,“It is a narrow mind which cannot look at a subject from various points of views”. For the broad-mind, perspective is all about what we choose to focus on. The meaning we give things, the way we make sense of the world, it’s based on what we think and our beliefs. At first glance, the magazine picture presented may just look like a simple room with a chair. Though from my perspective, it resembles an interrogation room.…
