College is a fun, memorable, and life changing experience for anyone who chooses to attend. The rush of applying to all your favorite colleges and universities, to finally getting the acceptance letter in the mail can be very exciting. But it’s not very easy to get in to college or stay in college. College students face many different barriers while they are in school. Anything from financial barriers to economic standing barriers. One of the main barriers that college student face, community college students more than four-year university college students is the Placement Exam. A placement test is an aptitude test many public community colleges use to place their students in the classes and programs fit for them. The two that are well know is the ACT: COMPASS and the ACCUPLACER. Students going into their first year must take the placement test and if they score below a certain mark they are placed in remedial math or English. This test is very important for students who are placed in remedial classes, because of a low scoring they have a huge barrier to face. It’s very important to look and see why that is.

I believe placement test are not a credible way of testing student success in college.
