The normality of marijuana in society has been more or less the same for the last few decades. In recent years due to its normalization debates on whether or not it should be legalized have begun. The medical use of marijuana is legal in 23 states but Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington are the only 4 states out of those 23 that have legalized recreational use (Mic). What are the pros and cons of marijuana legalization in the United States, for both medical and recreational use, and should it be legalized or not? The biggest reason and push for marijuana to be legalized is for its many uses medically. Patients use marijuana to relieve symptoms or pain, malnutrition, and some diseases. Marijuana can be used to help with the symptoms suffered from having AIDS. It is also used to help with Glaucoma. Those who suffer from epilepsy or other forms of nerve or nerve cell diseases use marijuana to deal with their symptoms. Cancer patients who are going through chemotherapy are the most known for their use of medical marijuana. Chemotherapy patients use medical marijuana to help with the nausea caused by the drug. Patients also use marijuana for pain caused by physiological disorders whether they be structural or psychological. Those who suffer from limb pain or muscle contractions such as MS also use marijuana for medical purposes. Patients who suffer from movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease or Tourettes can also use marijuana for medical purposes. Those who suffer from diseases that can cause malnutrition use marijuana in order to deal with the symptoms that make them not feel hungry. Medical marijuana can be used for those and many other medical reasons. Less severe reasons for medical marijuana use are migraines, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, and more.
