Recently Tom Cruise’s prideful attitude along with his promotion of the Church of Scientology have placed him at the forefront of the media’s celebrity obsession. In some ways Tom Cruise reminds me of the Pride and Prejudice character Mr. Darcy because how prideful he is. But, they are also fairly nice people to those they love. Regardless of how nice they are, the pride of these two individuals is what gets in the way of them developing relationships or maintaining relationships. Jane Austen portrayed Mr. Darcy as a prideful man with an inclination to be prejudice. The flaws I deal with–Pride, prejudice, stress–are what keeps me from becoming a better person. Darcy, he recognized his pride, and that he pre-judges people. He also realized that he needed to take some time to fix his flaws. After being rejected, Mr. Darcy goes away and isn’t heard from in the book for a short time. He eventually comes back and tells Elizabeth that “I have faults enough, but they are not, I hope, of understanding.” Mr. Darcy shows that he really is aware of his flaws, and knows that, in order to grow up, he must confront and deal with them. Darcy also recognizes his flaw of pre-judging people too harshly and too quickly. He realizes this flaw and then admits it to Elizabeth by saying that "I should have judged better, had I sought an introduction; but I am ill-qualified to recommend myself to strangers (Austen 115)". By openly admitting to his mistake of judging Lizzie too quickly and too harshly, he was making it apparent that he does realize that he has this flaw. Now the only thing left for Darcy to do is try and to improve …show more content…

Many ways of being prideful. I was shocked to realize I have been prideful for a few years, and that it may have interfered with getting to know my friends better or meeting new people. My flaw of being prejudice is one I only recently realized. This is because it has become a natural thing for me to do. I realized I had this flaw because this year I have intentionally tried to get to know some people at school that I previously thought were not the nicest people. I feel bad about judging these people before actually getting to know them. I have changed. And it is a change for the

Mr. Darcy, though he doesn’t seem like it, is actually the most stereotypical character of all the whole lot. He follows the tragic hero guidelines like he wrote the manual for it. His entire character can be broken down into a few simple steps; a man sets out on a journey (whether he knows it or not) to overcome a challenge, he begins to overcome a challenge, he suffers a major setback, he perseveres, and finally to put the cherry on the cake of typical romantic stories, he gets the girl. Darcy is unusual in this regard as he is not battling a dragon or saving a kingdom, Mr. Darcy is instead facing his greatest enemy of all, himself.…

Before properly knowing each other, Elizabeth is stubborn and judgmental when she meets new people, while Mr. Darcy is proud and egocentric when he looks down on people of a lower class than him. As Elizabeth and Darcy become more involved with each other, they identify one another’s shortcomings and learn how to change themselves. As they discuss their past relations, Elizabeth says that she has “long been most heartily ashamed” of her words and actions that had been sprung from her prejudice, while Darcy tells her that she had “taught [him] a lesson…most advantageous”, as through her, he “was properly humbled” (Austen, 240-241). While they both possess numerous flaws, Elizabeth and Darcy were capable of acknowledging their damaging pride and prejudice as they interacted with each other. Through their story, Austen indicates that it is possible for people to overcome their imperfections as they teach each other new morals.…
