Design Preference Survey Analysis

Improved Essays
On my design preference survey I scored a 58, which falls into the category for a preference for a mixture of mechanistic and organic characteristics. Comparing predictability and adaptability, I prefer predictability more, I like knowing that the next day will have the same overall structure as the day before. As for centralized or decentralized authority, I like having someone higher up than me that I can go to for help or advice. For rules and procedures, I like having a procedure, but I like to be able to do the procedure in my own way. I prefer narrow and wide spans of control because I like to know what I am doing and just be able to do it, without having to check in with someone all the time but also be able to ask them questions and get their option. I find teams better because you get more input and opinions and mostly get the work done faster. For coordination I like a mixture of both, formal and personal. Big 5 personality Handout
Trait Range Midpoint Result
Openness to Experience 10-50 30 30
Conscientiousness 9-45 27 34
Extraversion 8-40 24 24
Agreeableness 9-45 27 39
Neuroticism 8-40 24 20

My openness to experience, I think, makes sense that my result is the same as the midpoint. I think that because I can come up with new ideas, am curious about different things, and I value artistic, aesthetic experiences. However, I am not a very deep thinker nor do I have an active imagination or am inventive. Also, while I value and like to experience art, I do not enjoy or am very good at creating it. The reverse of openness to experience I relate to the most is that I prefer work that is routine. For conscientiousness, I think it matches that I am above the midpoint because I am a very reliable

I would describe my personality as approachable, light hearted, and positive. I believe that, if asked, my colleagues and supervisor would say the same about me. I have worked with diverse groups of people most of my career, including my time in University. I am most comfortable, and happy, in this type of environment because it offers me unique learning opportunities. I have found, in the past, that I work well in an individually driven environment; however, I can certainly be productive in a team based setting as well.…

Teamwork allows employees to take greater responsibility for decision making and also allows team members to control more of the work process. This can lead to improved morale decisions as employees gain more authority and ownership over the projects they are working on. The extra responsibility can lead to a more rewarding work environment and lower turnover. Working in a team also gives employees a greater sense of belonging and of recognition, which helps them take more pride in their work, and their company. Teamwork can help companies to be more flexible by bringing employees from different parts of a project together into one team.…

Cessna Skyhawk single-jet planes, first built in 1956 by Clyde Cessna, were very profitable in the 1980’s. However, with a downturn in the aviation business during the following 15 years, Cessna was unable to produce enough profit to sustain production of the Skyhawk and similar piston-engine planes and stopped production. Stopping production also resulted in Cessna laying off 75 percent of their employees. Fortunately, Skyhawks are not the only aircrafts that Cessna builds and they were able to stay in business.…

Leadership Style Self-Assessment 1 After taking the style questionnaire during while studying the Leadership Grid in Northouse; as expected, I found that my leadership style varies, although of the three theories discussed, more closely relates to team leadership. My assessment found my strengths to be with authority compliance (9,1) and team management (9,9). As suggested by Northouse (2012), “The 9,1 style of leadership places heavy emphasis on task and job requirements, and less emphasis on people, except to the extent that people are tools for getting the job done” (p. 79). The Team Management style is based on tasks and relationships. I consider myself more tasks orientated and analytical, while spending less time with my subordinates’ personal issues.…

Successful teams require effective communication and proper guidance. When teams do not communicate the outcome will be lower efficiency, poor morale, and decreased innovation; causing team embers to experience job dissatisfaction. The team process will not work without communication and a common plan (Robbins & Judge, 2011, p. 334). In contrast when teams communicate and have a strong plan team members will experience job satisfaction. Team members must be willing to work with all team members when working on a project.…

I also have a charismatic leadership style because I like to inspire others to do better and to move forward in life. When leading a team, I do not want to be an autocratic leader where an individual is afraid to voice their opinion or think that their voice is not heard. I like to have a team that each individual likes to show up to work and have a little to no absenteeism on the team. This will allow me to see that I am doing the right thing in leading my team and that I have the ability to encourage my team to voice their opinions and encourage them to move forward.…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…

Job satisfaction is a broad topic or subject because satisfaction itself has so many stipulations. Job satisfaction varies from the desire to make money, get promoted, colleagues, superiors, and the job responsibilities. Robbins and Judge stated, “One definition of job satisfaction—a positive feeling about a job resulting from an evaluation of its characteristics.” Individuals understand that satisfaction is limited in certain areas but it does not have to be. Human beings have to learn to be satisfied with themselves before they can find satisfaction elsewhere.…
