Did you know that the average cost of a slave is 90$? Sex trafficking is a billion dollar industry, approximately there are 20-30 million slaves in the world right now. That’s crazy right? 600,000-800,000 people are trafficked across international borders each year, 80% are female and half are children.(11 facts)
Something so little could save your life one day, know the red flags. Job offers that seem too good to be true 8/10 they probably are. I discussed what sex trafficking is, some of the background behind it, the five stages of grooming, the definitions of the keywords, the after effects of being a victim, some statistics, and more. Sex trafficking is a serious problem that should be talked about more, so young people can be aware and be safe. This large discrepancy unfortunately often occurs to our youth. More often. children who are victims of sex trafficking are misidentified as prostitutes and as a result, are unjustly arrested, charged, and re-victimized rather than rescued. Although some states have begun to make great strides in correctly identifying a trafficked youth as a victim who needs protection and specialized services through new legistation such as the Safe Harbor Law, there are still numerous states such as Pennsylvania where the Safe Harbor Bill has not been passed and children continue to be prosecuted rather that protected. Sex trafficking is a form of human trafficking in which an individual is forced to provide sexual services against their will through the use of intimidation, coercion, manipulation, and violence or in which the person induced to perform such acts has not attained 18 years of age (U.S. Department of State, 2012).…

At the turn of another century, the citizens of New Orleans are called to reflect on what has happened in the city. While some may reflect on major events (i.e. Hurricane Katrina and Super Bowl), I turned my attention to the people. The people who worked the district of Storyville and now work Bourbon Street. Correction, the women, the sex workers who have either chosen the dancer lifestyle or it has been chosen for them. This includes violence, threats, lies, debt bondage, and other forms of coercion to compel adults and children to engage in commercial sex acts against their will. It seems as people in this practice become romantically involved with each other with later the trafficker forcing them into prostitution. This is very frustrating to me because, as a female, how can you ever know which male is a trafficker or not? If a male is covering it up and earning your trust, you will never have a clue that he has the intentions of forcing you into prostitution. This is scary in any situation for females because this can happen anywhere, any place, or any…

The DOJ issued a warning stating that: “Among children and teens living on the streets in the United States, involvement in commercial sex activity is a problem of epidemic proportion” and claiming that “Child sexual exploitation is the most hidden form of child abuse in the U.S. today.” Yet, it is an epidemic that has gone largely overlooked and untreated. The truth is, there is no way to be sure how many are forced into prostitution every year here in America. The estimated figure is that 15,000 women are trafficked into the U.S. each year, but that the number of American girls trafficked on American streets is 10 to 20 times greater. The most common estimate mentioned by the DOJ and child protection agencies puts the number at around 300,000-but believe it to be closer to 800,000.…

However, many individuals and groups have seized the opportunity to take a stand against those who run the sex trafficking rings, as well as provide comfort and support to those who fell victim to sex trafficking. Such individuals and organizations have started the process of ending sex trafficking and bringing justice to the victims by contracting prevention programs, building trust funds, expanding safe homes and communities to victims and supporting laws that prosecute the men or women responsible for trafficking rings. Although this epidemic is larger than a national issue, as it is broadcasted worldwide, the beginning to the end of this degrading and inhuman…

The city also often holds big business conferences and sporting events causing a large intake of people coming into our city for short periods of time. Demand for the commercial sexual services sustains and grows the sex trafficking industry; it ensures the high profitability of the industry that encompasses both prostitution and sex trafficking. Men who buy sex are the primary customers of the industry, they influence the desired type of females and locations for seeking services. Unfortunately, male demand has increased the demand for the number of clean girls or virgins, which makes children an increasing target for the sex trafficking industry (Yen, 2008). Men who engage in commercial sex have hostile aggressive personalities, and view women as disposable objects that are tossed aside when used (Farley, Golding, Matthews, Malamut & Jarret, 2015). To meet this demand, pimps obtain a greater number of vulnerable individuals, including children, whose bodies will be used in the commercial sex…
