Phrase such as “charley horse”, “lazy Susan”, “bull market” and “Kaiser Roll” have all come under fire because they are now considered to be politically incorrect. When going to a restaurant you will no longer be using the term “Waiter” or Waitress” to address the person who serves your food since this is a complete prejudice attack on that individual, you will need to refer to that person as the “Waitron” so as not to offend. In fact all references to sexual orientation associated with any position or station life are to be removed from the words we speak and write, no longer can we use terms such as “lord” ,”king”, “master” or “ fellow” to describe a man, I’m not certain what the new words are to replaces these but I’m sure someone will catch me saying something like, “ my friend is a nice fellow” and quickly set me straight for my blatant disregard of women and society as a whole. One of the figures that Kakutani points out in her story is writer by the name of Rosalie Maggio who is a top cop in the world of the word police, she is not only against words that imply gender she also is against anything that could imply race as well. Ms. Maggio points to phrases such as “ black ball”, black eye and “black mail” and tells society these terms are wrong and are offence to African American’s, she informs us of the new …show more content…
We have a story that has completely been changed to fit the role of a political correct story which has taken every word that could ever possible be considered offensive such as lumber jack and turns it into tree butcher. The old story was simple, a lumber jack leaves his kids to because he can’t feed them, the kids meet a witch, the witch try’s to eat the kids and at the end the father comes in to save the day. In the new version by James Finn Gardner we are dealing with survivalist, Wican’s, organic remedies, lawyers, and corporate greed. This book is a great late night story for the children of the word

Recently, political correctness has swept into the forefront of modern day culture. The term has come to mean a variety of things, but at its core is an idea that words and actions should not offend or make anyone uncomfortable. However, South Park has managed to remain strong to its roots by still being inflammatory and offensive with the series continuing to draw heaps of criticism from many different groups. While South Park may not conform to what polite society expects, it manages to provide biting satire and commentary. Marcus Schulzke argues in “South Park and the Transformation of Meaning” that a hateful word’s meaning can be changed over time which can be seen in “The F-Word” in which the boys call a group of loud bikers “fags” as they try to get them to leave town (2012).…

The term politically correct first appeared in the 1960’s and since then it has evolved far beyond its original purposes. In his article “Apple Removes All American Civil War Games From the App Store Because of the Confederate Flag”, Tasos Lazarides informs people about Apple’s decision to remove the image of the Confederate Battle Flag the author does not take a strong position in the argument. He uses the article more for informational purposes, as opposed to using the article for an argument. Recently there has been uproar over the use of the Confederate Battle Flag. People find it offensive and therefore, it is being taken down everywhere.…

The last thing you want to do is offend someone because of their beliefs, their faith, race, sex, gender, or anything. The public is becoming more aware of this as several media outlets have taken to using what they call “politically correct” terms. Terms that when used in discussions about sensitive topics, will hopefully not rub anybody the wrong way. At least, that’s what they want you to believe. Many Americans disagree with the notion that you have to speak in a “politically correct” fashion.…

Throughout time, there have been many words that have offended people of many races and religions. Even in this time period, there continue to be such words. However, there are words that are not meant to be offensive since they carry a different meaning behind them. Such words either sound similar to offensive words or they were “evolved” into offensive words. One word that I would discuss about is “Bitch,” its past, present, and how it affects people.…

For years now, people have tried to be more “politically correct” in everything they say or do. “Political correctness,” I have observed does not only pose problems for those in the majority but for the minorities as well. While on the surface this seems to be just a way of being considerate and kind to fellow human beings, I believe it is actually hurting society as a whole. When majority members cannot speak candidly, members of under-represented groups also suffer. What it results in is that no one, even the minorities it tries to protect, can discuss their concerns about fairness and fears without falling into the negative stereotypes.…

The situation that occurs here is one that we are all familiar with throughout the U.S; when a black person and a white person get into an argument and it escalates to fast and ends with a gun pointed at the black person. It all started when Addison, white male, was singing along to a song with the n-word and Reggie, black male, asked him to not say it again but he insisted on why he couldn’t say it if it was part of the song and he thought it felt weird if he censored himself. But then it escalated when Kurt comes over and says “Reggie getting in a fight about racism” sarcastically and also told Addison if he didn’t want anything destroyed in a riot then hide it; meaning that blacks are always the ones to commit an act of violence but that’s not always the case. Addison was basically called a racist for using the n-word and I understand why because of the roots of the word. I can relate this to the reading “There are Bitches and Hoes” by Tricia Rose because she discusses when some women participate, whether it is in behaviors, starring in a rapper’s video, or even signing along in the car, it is pointing to women’s cooperation with sexism and that behaving in a hyper sexual way is for some women the only mean to making any gains at all (Rose, 2015, pp.…

Political-correctness, described by Bill Lind on “The Origins of Political Correctness,” as a form of cultural Marxism due to the totalitarian ideology parallels, has currently shaped the way Americans process issues. Sadly, the problem is that many Americans simply can't recognize deficiencies anymore living with this belief . Political-correctness is a way to avoid offending, or hurting another person's feelings by for example, removing certain art, music, sexism, racism, etc.. Throughout the nineties and to this day, offending someone because something may possibly exhibit their “social disadvantages” or how they are “discriminated” has been considered unfathomable. This has gone to the extent of changing social norms, such as the word criminal.…

What he may not have understood was that the profanity that was used in the story wasn’t used just to just profanity but to create a connection with the reader. “Black Boy” was also challenged in Howell Michigan High School because of its strong sexual content. As they challenged the book they didn’t pay any attention to the story that the book was trying to tell but to the minor things that were necessary for the book to flow.…

Yehuda Berg once said "Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate, and to humble. The use of this quote to start off my essay perfectly ties in with what we are going to talk about, which is the word “Bitch”. Could our language become completely controlled by the government? In 1984, George Orwell wrote about a world in the future where speech was greatly restricted; he called this language “Newspeak”, and it is very similar to the political correctness that is noticeable in America today. It was a language that was created by the totalitarian state, and it was used to limit free thought and any concepts in which the government felt threatened. Political Correctness is the avoidance of the sensitivities of others that disables one from speaking openly, limits the flow of ideas, and it diminishes personal rights.…
