Plastics encompass most disposable items that American use daily, such as plastic water bottles, food containers, and trash bags. Plastics are cheap, lightweight, strong, tough, and corrosion resistant and have high thermal and electrical insulation properties (Thompson et al, 2009). 3-4% of world oil and gas usage is used to manufacture plastics and 4% is used as a component of plastics. Plastics are mostly derived from petrochemicals produced from fossil oil and gas (Thompson et al, 2009). The most commonly used plastic is polypropylene, which is used to make food carriers, such as yogurt cups and Ziploc bags (Andrady, 2009). Oil and natural gas are the primary raw materials of plastics. The process begins by treating

Injection Molding is a process by which plastic pellets are melted and is forced at high pressure into a mold. This process is used to make butter tubs, yogurt containers, and lids. Blow molding is a process that is used in tandem with extrusion or injection molding. In extrusion blow molding, the die (small opening) forms a semi-molten tube of thermoplastic material. The chilled mold is compressed and air is blown to force it to conform it the mold. This is used to manufacture hollow plastic products. Injection Blow Molding uses injection techniques to mold a preform and then heat the preform to blow the softened plastic into the final shape, plastic soda bottles are made by this method. The last method of plastic production is Rotational Molding, which comprises a closed mold mounted on a machine capable of rotating on two axes. The mold is placed in an oven to heat the plastic granules, rotation distributes the plastic evenly, this is then cooled. This technique is used to make hollow items like toys or kayaks. C. Utilization
Plastics are used in every aspect of modern human life. Their adaptability permits usage in everything from car parts to toys. Plastics are also inexpensive and can be produced to meet specific needs. Plastics are used in plastic wraps and Tupperware for food preservation, containers for juices and foods. Plastics are used in grocery carts, bumpers, cell phones, home
