However, most conflicts don’t even make it to all phrases, conflict can skip the pre-violence phrase and go right to armed conflict phrase and continue in that phrase for months maybe even years. A good example would be the war in Afghanistan, after the 9/11 attacks, the United States responded with brute military force, the United States went straight to phrase two of conflict armed conflict.
