Let's do a quick survey. Hands up those that think a life spent without goals is pointless. How about a person who doesn't achieve any of her goals, a failure? And if a person has lofty goals and achieves most of them, she's got to be a success right? But why is that? Further more, why do we put the latter group of people on a pedestal …show more content…
Well, what if there were as many alternatives as there are people in this world. Lofty goals do not necessarily make important goals. And sometimes it is hard to see the goal in a person's life at all but that doesn't make their time wasted. In this world of suicides and violence, a person that has decided to go through life doing no harm to others, should be just as proud as a big name sports star. And those folks that spend their entire lives trying to find meaning in the physical structure of the universe, they know they will never finish but is their effort worthless. Let's take, for example, a parent whose only ambition is to raise happy and contented children. It will be some time before we see that person interviewed for the evening news.
What I am trying to say, is that we should step back from our entrenched world view, in order to get a little perspective. If you haven't worked out a rough meaning to your life, perhaps you should take some time out from your busy life, and do just that. And if you choose a life of relative navel gazing, do not be dissuaded by the poor opinions of the unenlightened. The mob that
