The first pair is how we prefer to get motivated, internally (Introverted) or externally (Extroverted) (BSM, 2006). The second pair is how we prefer to take in information, trusting our five senses (Sensing) or relying on instincts (Intuitive). My mother got a severe sense of urgency and she can hardly relax. She is always overwhelmed with what needs to be done and huge planned tasks. Therefore, she got high-blood-pressure disease in her early 40s. On the other hand my father seems to be more relaxed and do not worry much about future. He is so flexible and he may sometimes delay his works to last moment. Apparently, I do not feel very comfortable about this classification as it may not be so accurate.
Learning and applying the theories of personality type can be a powerful and rewarding experience, if it is used as a tool for discovery, rather than as a method for putting people into boxes, or as an excuse for their unacceptable behaviors. Learning about our personality type helps us to understand why certain areas in life look so easy and comfortable to us, and others are more of a struggle. In addition, learning about others personality types help us to understand the most effective way to communicate with them, and how they function
