Personal Self Reflection

I contemplated about the amount of information I was willing to disclose in this first writing assessment about myself. A life lesson I learned the hard way was, the more people know about you the more they can harm you. Not to say that anything I share in this paper will be used against me, but I have become very sceptical about sharing personal information. For as long as I can remember I have always been a social butterfly never having trouble making friends in any environment. What I did not realize that instead of being myself, which was what ultimately drew people to my personality, I became a people pleaser. I began to thrive on being liked by my peers that I did any and everything to maintain these relationships. Not until college was …show more content…
Each client was unique due to being in different stage in their lives, some needing more care than others. As an aide our main goal was to assist /accommodate each person with their daily living activities, make sure they were eating or attending all meals, and receiving their medication needed. For me this experience was rewarding because I was not only able to gain experience in my field, but my passion for helping older adults grew stronger each day. All the residents stated how caring and gentle I was and how much they adored me, but I don 't believe they will ever understand how grateful I was to be able to be employed by a company where I loved my duties and was able to figure out how this passion could become a career for myself.
A year before graduating, I reflected on all I had learned thus far and what activities brought me joy. I finally decided after reflecting on my great grandmother having Alzheimer 's, and my grandmother having dementia, that I loved the older adult population I would open and own my own dementia day care. After creating this long term goal for myself, it seemed as If I then was able to see who I was, and why I was a significant contribution on this

With my healthcare background I am able to have the knowledge of certain medical aspects as well as administration when running my own facility. With a minor in business and dementia I was able to learn more about the financial aspects of owning and maintaining a company and specifically caring for the older adult population. It is not my initial intent to become a counselor per say, but I would like to be able to counsel the family members of those who I am caring for. Ultimately I plan to incorporate my learnings from both fields of study to further my life and career. Currently I am continuing to be comfortable in my own skin by putting my best efforts into working as hard as possible to focus on my tasks at hand. I make an effort to obtain as much reading on my field of interest as well as attend conferences and seminars on the subject matters. I also am starting to manage my money and create a savings, but this process was accelerated due to me being with child. In closing, I am elated to state that now I am comfortable being myself in any environment, I have created short term goals to aid me in reaching my long term goals, and I have created a better financial situation for myself in order to provide for myself, my child, and my bright

My entire life I have been surrounded and encouraged by people to care for others. For instance, my mother works in health care as a hospice and home health aid. When she gets home from work I can tell in the way she talks about her occupation that she is thrilled to help her clients live happier and healthier lives. This has led me to want a career that would directly work with people, and watch patients grow independently. In high school I did some research to what careers that would offer just that.…

One of my strengths this semester was administering medication. Every medication that I gave I did the three checks and the six rights of medication administration. One time I grabbed the wrong eye drops from the drawer before checking the MAR but when I started the three checks I noticed right away that I had the wrong medication. This showed me the importance of doing the three checks before every medication administration since it is easy to make a mistake. Another strength of mine this semester was being compassionate and empathetic to my patients.…

An exercise in class allowed me to understand my own reasoning for helping others as well as what may be my own selfish reasons for seeking this profession. For example, at one point in the exercise, I broke ground into my own self-assessment and found insight that I was partially seeking the profession for money and for my savior complex. I felt that this observation of myself showed that I was overall, functioning normally with both healthy and minimal unhealthy motivations. Another concern that came across my mind is when I have a…

Self reflection is the mental process that acquires knowledge and understanding through thoughts and experience which helps encourage self awareness. This essay focuses on assessing my objectives and how I have developed my skills from the beginning of this semester until now. At the start of semester A, I wasn’t confident in preparing for the skills sessions and workshops. I wasn 't always able to find the correct answers to the workshop questions set which made it relatively difficult for me to participate in lectures despite finding myself at the library every other day. I began by listening to knowledge based lectures online and making notes alongside the recommended reading given by my lecturers or the module guide.…
