A personal narrative is a personal story. Remember that we have been talking about personal narratives? The word personal means that you own it. This is my personal sweater and these are my personal shoes. So, a personal story is a story about me. Can you say it with me class? “A personal narrative is a story about me. It has a beginning, a middle, and end. It also has to have describing words.”

Before I write my personal narrative I want you to begin thinking about what good writers do. Remember that we have been talking about what good writers do. Pointing to the second box “middle” in the graphic organizer say I was so sad I couldn’t find him anywhere. Pointing to the third box “end” in the graphic organizer say finally I looked underneath the bed and there he was and I was so happy. Say my story has a beginning, middle, and end as you point to each of the boxes in the graphic organizer. Ask students, “What happened in the beginning of the story?” Give them a minute to respond. Call on a student. Once the student answers say “That’s right, I lost my dog so I was sad.” Draw an image of myself with a sad facial expression for the first box of the graphic organizer to illustrate how I was feeling at that moment in time. Ask students, “What happened next?” Call on a student. Once the student answers say, “That’s correct, I looked everywhere.” Draw an image of myself outside my house with a speech bubble calling my dog’s name “Peluche.” Ask students, “What happened last?” Give them a minute to respond. Call on a student. Once the students provides an answer, say “Very good, I looked under the bed and there he was. When I found him I became happy.” Draw an image of myself with a happy face and my dog underneath my bed. Once I’m done with all of the drawings I’m going to go back and write for the first box the word sad, then for the second box I’m going to write worried, and for the last box I’m going to write happy. For each of the words I write in the graphic organizer, I’m going to sound them out. Ask “Does my story have a beginning, a middle and an end?” Wait for them to answer. Say “Can someone come up and point to the beginning, middle, and end of my story?” The student will come up to the white board and point to the appropriate areas. Project #1: Literacy Narrative I remember walking across the lawn from our tiny add on classroom, up the stairs, and into the second grade class. Walking to my assigned desk directly in front of the window, I sat down in front of my best friend. Sometimes, sleepy and tired, I stared at the giant oak tree in our school yard and watching the clouds move. My first experience with writing was in fourth grade.…

Throughout this course, I have learned several things, from how to write a rhetorical analysis to how to properly cite a quote. Prior to entering English 121 I had no idea what a rhetorical analysis even was. Then after that, I did not know how to properly cite a quote in MLA 8 format. Including learning how to write, I learned about different sides of very controversial subjects from sexual and gender identity though, the biggest problem I saw was the rate that our U.S. military service men commit suicide at. Finally, I learned how to properly format an essay for an example, this is the introduction paragraph and the following paragraphs will be body paragraphs!…

A person’s personal knowledge or historical accounts are the basis for a memoir. There are various authors that have various ways to create a memoir that fits them and their story. William Faulkner, an American writer, won a Nobel Prize in Literature from Oxford Mississippi in 1949. During his banquet speech, he shared his perspective in writing memoirs and writing in general. As he put it the “writer’s duty” was that young writers are forgetting the problems of the human heart which is in conflict with itself and that writers must write with love, pride, and compassion instead of the opposite.…

Sunlight poured in as Lacher sat at his desk, a book resting in his hands. His eyes traced the words on the page, focusing intently on what he was reading. He reached for the door before pausing, taking a moment to brush off his suit pants before turning the knob.…

Remember the last time you were at a casino and you heard all that yelling at the craps table and wondered “what are they yelling about”, but you never ventured over there because you are too intimidated by craps. You’re not the only one. I used to watch from a distance trying to figure out what was going on, people were throwing chips everywhere yelling all sorts of crazy jargon (“press”, “same bet”, “hard 8”, “odds”) all while the dealers are moving chips all over the place paying people and taking other people’s money. What a crazy and intimidating game.…

It was a chaotic day at the hospital, and the waiting room was packed tighter than a can of sardines. The smell of disinfectant and sweat seemed pleasant, when compared to the baby with the sagging diaper running around. Sitting with his girlfriend was Larry Goodman, a Rubeus Hagrid lookalike, minus the moleskin overcoat. He adjusted the blue hospital mask that was too tight. He couldn’t believe it, sitting here for the second time this week.…
