Ever since I was in eighth grade, I have always dreamed of working on Wall Street and being a stockbroker. My first exposure to the field was created after I participated in a stock market simulation in eighth grade and did finished in second place out of 45 students. My teacher saw that even at such a young age, I had a knack for picking up on certain trends of the market and making the right investments at the right time. Since then, my understanding of finance has evolved from solely stocks to financial consulting and investment banking. For this upcoming year, I have come up with a three step plan to ensure that I can gain exposure in the field and gain exposure in different occupations I can use with a finance degree.

I have already taken advantage of this by enrolling in an advanced level Finance course (FIN 351) in order to get a better understanding of the field. I decided to take this course after I spoke with Gail Gerardi, who worked as a Financial consultant for companies such as SoBe corporation and Schick-Wilkinson Sword (a division of Energizer) in Connecticut, but most notably worked for Ernst and Young LLP in New York City for three years (1988-1991) as a manager and four years (1991-1995) as a senior manager. She told me that the best way for me to get a head start on learning about my major would be to take a course in that field the first chance I get. Finance students at Pace are scheduled to take their first finance course during the second semester of their sophomore year. However since I am in the honors college, I can start my education a semester early and learn about my field from the top professors at the university. My professor is highly respected in his field and his guidance will provide me with a strong foundation for my Finance …show more content…
I have applied to four positions through my school’s website, Handshake.com; Sales Team Intern at NBCUniversal, Finance Intern at Joseph Gunnar & Co., LLC, Business Analyst at Elegran Real Estate, and Finance Intern at Cape Securities. So far I have not heard back from any of the internships, but I am optimistic that I will be able to have an interview with at least one of the companies. I was originally considering applying for a position for a job on campus but after interviewing Mrs. Gerardi, she informed me that the best way to spend my time outside of school to help prepare me for my career in the future would be to get an internship. She explained how I would gain the exposure necessary to evaluate whether or not I would enjoy having a career in Finance. The reason why I applied to varied companies was in order to get a taste of the different positions someone working in Finance could have. Since this would be my first finance internship I would be open to trying any type of work in the field. Once the internship is over I could narrow down what type of position I would want after I graduated from

An internship is normally a work task a student completes after a series of classes to gain a degree in a particular field they think they’ll love, whether they still love it after they’ve completed that journey is based upon a multitude of criteria. Luckily, I have found that I quite enjoy fashion and working in retail throughout this internship at Dress Barn. Occasionally students find that what they thought they were getting into, is actually completely different than what they expected. Especially when reading about a profession on paper versus seeing it up closer in real life. When I started college, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study or achieve with my life.…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers.
