The second and equally as important characteristic that defines a “Person of the Year” is Impactfulness. These people changed the world in their year and through their actions impacted it for better or worse.Time magazine people; Franklin D Roosevelt (34), Vladimir Putin, and The Protestor all changed the world in that year for better or worse and definitely made a lasting impact. Franklin D Roosevelt (34) was nominated for and seen as person of the year many times and there was no shortage of what he did in the world to change it. During his year Roosevelt made an impact on the American people helping them to get out of and grow from the Great Depression. Either good or bad, the person has to do something that year that changes and contributes something to the world. Like Franklin D Roosevelt (32) giving hope to the American people being elected to president. Or Joseph Stalin (39) and his Non-aggression Pact with Germany. As well as Harry Truman ending the war in the Pacific with dropping the Nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These people all contributed to the world one way or another and Time acknowledged them with giving them the award. In 1932 Franklin D. Roosevelt beat Herbert Hoover becoming the 32nd president with 57.4% of the popular vote. While there wasn’t one thing that made him stand out, Roosevelt helped the to change and contribute to the American people. President during the Great Depression. He was a beacon of hope for the American people and was well liked by them. He contributed his time and ideas to the U.S and was able to change the U.S for the better. Joseph Stalin 1939 year of time magazine involved his involvement in WWII and his influence on his country and rest of the world. Starting with the signing of the Non-aggression pact with germany Stalin annexed parts of Poland and Romania. With their involvement in the early parts of WWII, Joseph Stalin and the USSR gained respect and was looked at as a power at the time.
