Personal Reflection For A Fitness Project

Improved Essays
This year, I decided to take Virtual P.E. instead of the traditional course in order to avoid scheduling conflicts with my full array of classes in the upcoming school year. My fitness-based project gave me opportunity both to stay fit and, as suggested by Adams, to improve the quality of my summer. In order to make the most of my experience, I looked for activities that I enjoy and that would help me to achieve my goals. The set of cardiovascular activities I selected targeted my first goal, improving my running 5k time. My regimen included weekly 5k trials to measure my progress, hill workouts to improve my hill stamina, and long runs to improve my endurance. Later in the summer, I expanded my aerobic workouts to include bike rides for cross …show more content…
I was generally happy with the choices I made planning my summer. I especially enjoyed running and biking outside, since it allowed me to be out in the sun. I often ran in the morning, while the sun was up but it was not yet too hot. I am also happy with my gym workouts, although I found them to be much more tedious and repetitive. The biggest benefits of the gym workouts for me were the simplicity and regularity. Looking back, I would look for better ways to add variety to my gym workouts to avoid a lack of motivation from boredom. Along with my interest level, a major factor in designing my fitness program was adherence to fitness principles and strategies. First, I took the FITT principle (frequency, intensity, time, and type) into consideration. Frequency was incorporated in my regular schedule - runs, bike rides, and gym workouts were each planned three times a week, giving my time for rest days. I monitored intensity as I went through the program, while planning ahead of time to limit super high-intensity activity to my weekly 5k trial runs. Time was mainly involved in conjunction with intensity, balancing the two for effective workout. The types of activities were dictated by my fitness goals. Second, I incorporated the strategies of …show more content…
I have discovered that even when I have to get up early to work out before going to my job (or school), regular exercise gives me energy throughout the day and I feel better. I have also learned that I can always improve my physical fitness. Over the last three months, I have improved both my cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength. Because of the benefits I have seen, I am more likely to continue to exercise after this summer is over. Along with continuing in martial arts, I plan to go for morning runs and keep doing pushups and situps to maintain my strength. I hope that the skills I have acquired this summer will help me to live a happy and healthy

Fitness and Goal Setting Knowledge Fitness and goal setting have been the main topic of conversation in this class. Whether we need to work on legs or arms today, or what we are going to do in the future. I learned that it is better to do quantity over quality when it comes to fitness workouts, and that it is always important to stretch and warm up your muscles before a workout to ensure you do not strain any muscles. For goal setting, I learned that if you pick a specific goal that you wish to achieve, like say to reach +10 in the fitness flexibility test, you can keep working towards that goal step by step, or in this case number by number, to reach your goals efficiently. When reaching towards a goal, you cannot just make it in one try…

My first action plan was simply running a mile for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It was a reasonable schedule where I would relax on Sunday and Monday to not overstrain my body. I kept track of my progress through an app called “Runtastic” on my phone during my runs. My runs were usually in the evenings and I pushed myself to stay consistent with the schedule. The first…

For the Nutrition tracker, I decided to use the website My Fitness Pal. I used this site because I have already been using it to track my consumption for the last few weeks as I try to increase my overall health. In my opinion, my diet this week was very disappointing with respect to my diet goals. My diet was severely lacking with respect to its completeness. For the most part I had no real fruits or vegetables, the only consumption of those food groups came as a topping on my burger or other main entrees.…

I started my journey in health and fitness at a young age. I was always one of those kids who just could not sit still - so I was into everything, climbing trees, riding bikes, swimming, sports, you name it I was into it. However my discipline to this way of life came when I discovered basketball, it was when I was about 13/14 and shot up to practically the height I am now, so my teachers said why don't you try and develop your skills as a basketball player as I was taller than most of my teachers at 13 which lead them to think I'd grow to be some kind of 7 foot giant, but unfortunately that didn't happen, would've been cool though.…

Stereotypes from past experiences as well as the media have almost formed how most individuals view a physical education teacher. Most people have an idea of what a “good” phys-ed teacher and also what a “bad” phys-ed teacher should be like. Personally, a good physical education teacher should be athletic, a good leader or role model, a strong communicator, confident in their abilities, motivational, organized, creative, and enthusiastic. There are plenty other characteristics that a phys-ed teacher could possess that make them a great teacher, however only these will be touched on. On the other hand a few undesired characteristics that could make a phys-ed teacher seem bad are: mean, bad with people skills, condescending, temperamental,…

I counted walking to class as a form of physical activity, which it was, but not enough. I am a lazy person and would rather be laying around watching Netflix than going to the gym.…
