The alchemist had to test Santiago in order to see if he’s on the right track so that he knows if he has been following correctly God’s plan. God introduced the Language of the World so that Santiago could understand everything around him and ask for wisdom and guidance to find the treasure. “The language of the world is the unspoken, wordless expression of the soul of the world, a kind of universal collective unconscious through which all people are connected with each other and the earth.” (Sheila, G).
