Lucius Junius Brutus was an important figure in the Roman Republic. He was born in 545 BC and lived until 509 BC where he would meet one of his enemies at the Battle of Silva Arsia. The rape of Lucretia caused Brutus to form the Roman Republic with her husband, Lucius Tarquinius Collatinus. Brutus would lead the people of Rome by example and left an admirable legacy that would still impress scholars today. Overthrowing the Monarchy No one could have guessed the major impact Lucretia’s rape would bring about. A whole republic formed because of this tragic event. Livy, a historian, recounts the rape of Lucretia as a result of selfishness and desire. They were trying to take the throne again. At Silva Arsia, Brutus and Valerius were ready for a fight that would determine the fate of the Republic. There was no way that they were going to give up easily and let the Tarquins rule Rome ever again.
The son of Superbus Tarquinius, Arruns Tarquinius, met face to face with Brutus. Both men were on their horses and had spears. They ran at each other at full speed and speared each other, Brutus and Tarquinius were both announced dead. Not long after, Tarquinius forces had been pushed back and Rome had claimed victory. The people of Rome were disheartened when they heard that their fellow leader was killed. Valerius threw an honorable funeral for Brutus and most people of Rome attended it.
