In the painting The Sleeping Danae Being Prepared to Receive Jupiter(1603) by Goltzius there is a lady that is accompanied by another lady who functions as “the foil to her beauty, the crone to her youth, death to her sex”. I think that in this painting it is trying to tell us that when women get older their looks will start to change and become less desirable or just being around women can be dangerous itself. But in both paintings of Venus and Danae they both show us one thing, that they both still are “faces of one male fantasy...who is by turns desirable and deadly”. In almost all her music videos and performance is very unique, different, and somewhat unpleasant to look at. For example in her music video Bad Romance the video is supposed to represent her love struggles for a man but the man just sees her as a friend and the music video is supposed to represent mental/physical torture of her love. I believe that Lady Gaga was one of the Originals of the contemporary avant garde gambits but there has been more appearing. Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry would be another example of contemporary avant garde gambits. As for athletes I can only think of one and I think that would be Ryan Lochte. Ryan Lochte is an Olympic swimmer and I believe that he belongs in the categories of avant garde because he wears grills every time he ends up on the podium, had his own tv show, and has some pretty unique hairstyles if you compare him to other Olympic
