Brystal's Accidents: A Short Story

Superior Essays
Do you ever just look up at the sky and wonder why you’re here?” Brystal asked me. We were laying on her 2004 Chevy Camaro and making pictures with the clouds. “Everyday!” I replied flatly. “Do you ever get an answer?” Brystal said in wonder. We both had our eyes fixed on the sky because it made a great distraction. “I like to think that I do,” I said with a sigh. “The answer is always something wacky that makes me laugh,” I said with a grin. “Just last Monday, after Chemistry class, I walked over to my dorm building and laid on the grass. The sprinklers came on and I heard the words lifeguard in my head. It was funny because I was soaked in water, which I hate. Yet, I was told to be a lifeguard.” I said, with a snort.
“Does it hurt when the

She sounded distance and lifeless. “Brystal, we cannot bring him back. Eli has been dead for a whole year now and is now up in Heaven with Jesus. How can that make you upset? He is at peace and with the king who died for us all. Please stop torturing yourself.” I pleaded. Brystal turned over on her car and stared at me with tears streaming down her face. “April, I lost my future,” She said with a pause. “What do you mean?” I said with an uneasy feeling. Brystal sat up on her car and swallowed hard. “Brystal?” I said getting up with her.
“I lost my future when he died. April, we made plans to run away with each other. We made plans to get marry after the end of senior year. We even conceived a baby until,” Brystal paused. “What baby?” I whispered. I was unable to make eye contact with her for reasons I did not understand. “We had sex three months prior to his death. I found out I was pregnant. We decided to keep the baby and start a family. One month before his death, I lost the baby. From there Eli dumped me and ended it all,” Brystal admitted. I sat speechless on her Camaro as my mind tried to process what she told

I wanted to lie and save myself the embarassment, but couldn’t. “You’re absolutely right, Philip,” I heard myself admit. “Now, please help me find Brystal because she’s all I have lefted.” My voice sounded shaky and cracked from emotion. “Okay!” Philip said, backing away. “I will help you.” He decided. Extending his hand, Philip winked at me and said, “shall we follow the yellow brick road, my lady?” I stared at him in disbelief.
“Is this who you sent to help me?” I asked Jesus Christ out loud. “Who are you talking to?” Philip asked, looking around. “You wouldn’t understand, it’s Christian stuff.” I said proudly. Finally, I was able to slide off the 2004 Chevy Camaro and began walking in Brystal’s direction. Behind me, I could feel Philip’s eyes on me. “I’m a Christain too, you know.” Philip whispered under his breathed. I didn’t know if he wanted me to hear him or not, but I couldn’t worry about this words because I knew my friend needed saving.
“BRYSTAL!” I began to yell. Instantly, Philip ran up to me and cover my mouth. “Shh! Don’t yell. Look queitly. There are bears and wolves in these woods.” Philip said. “Philip, we are on an open trial. There are no
