There are about thirteen top oil spills in history and that totaled is around 1,421 million gallons oil spilled. BP was estimated to of spilled 206 million gallons in the Gulf of Mexico. BP made several unsuccessful attempts to plug the well. In the Persian Gulf they spilled about 380-520 million gallons. The oil resulted in a 4-inch thick oil slick that spread across 4,000 square miles in the Persian Gulf. When the Exxon Valdez tanker hit a reef off the Alaskan eleven of its cargo tanks ruptured. They lost about 1.2 billion dollars because of the oil killing the fish. Sport fishing in the Everglades make more than $378 million in wages that support 12,391 full-time jobs. There are more than 8,000 jobs linked to saltwater sport fishing which could be in trouble if there is oil that reaches the Everglades region (World Socialist Web Site). When fishermen can not go and fish it affects a massive amounts of restaurants. About 40 percent of the nation 's seafood harvests come from the Gulf Coast. Restaurants all over the country called to stay updated on the availability of seafood. Louisiana 's seafood industry makes about $2.4 billion dollars yearly (Chen, Stephanie, and Kat Kinsman).
